Belittlement On learning of Jeremy Vetter’s great accomplishment in earning the most distinguished award given to undergraduate students in the United States, we were both very proud to be a part of the University of Nebraska-Lincoto. Then we read Chancellor Moeser’s quote in the Dec. 10 DN: “Being a Rhodes Scholar is the academic equivalent of winning the Heisman Trophy.” Jeremy Vetter has striven and excelled in so many areas of life that such a statement seems to belittle the worth of his achievements as well as the intelligence of Nebraskans. Is Chancellor Moeser trying to help the people of Nebraska relate Vetter’s accomplishments to some thing they can understand: football? > Why can Jeremy Vetter not be v honored in his own right? Must everything be compared to football in Nebraska? Or is that all this university wants to be known for? Katrina Faust and Kristen Nicole Satteriee freshmen 1 Priscilla’s porn I cannot recall how many letters I have read in opposition to pomogra _\_ Natalie Linstrom/DN phy in the Daily Nebraskan’s advertisements, but here is another. I was eating my breakfast on Wednesday morning when I saw an ad for Priscilla’s. I was initially offended and disgusted when I saw the half-naked woman trying to lure in customers with a seductive stance. Maybe it’s just because I am a female that I cannot appreciate this distasteful attempt at sex appeal which exploits women. Or maybe I just realize there is a time and place for sexuality—and that is not in the NEWSpaper I read over breakfast. Bethany Vesely sophomore ' music — Thievery To the person who stole my German book from the Union on Monday: Your deed did not go without notice. Your pathetic act only deepens my dislike for people such as yourself. I hope that you needed the money more than I did, but you could have just asked for a dollar. Of course, your kind will not degrade yourself to that point, but will instead steal from your peers, oily to give | yourself some beer money for after 1 f finals week. When you do finally get caught stealing, it could ruin your academic life here at UNL. j I propose a new policy dealing with thieves. They should be expelled—simply and quickly. If you are guilty, you should*pay the ~s price. You are just lucky that I didn’t see you do it, because I would have made you regret it. Anyway, go out and spend your money on whatever you like, because you took a great risk in getting it. My final is on Monday, and Ijsvill find a way to study. Next time, I hope you get caught, Mid embarrass yourself and your family. Chad Weidner senior English
