Robbery
A man robbed a bank Saturday
by telling the cashier he was wired
with dynamite.
The suspect walked into Union
Bank and Trust, 1300 N. 48th St.,
at 12:19 pjn. Saturday, Lincoln
police Sgt. Ann Heermann said.
He told the cashier to give him
cash because he had a bomb with
him, Heermann said.
He left the bank on foot with a
“sizeable” amount of cash,
Heermann said. He was described
as 5 feet, 10 inches tall, weighing
about 175 pounds and wearing a
green-hooded sweat shirt with a
mask over his face.
The Federal Deposit Insurance
Corp. prohibits bank employees
from talking to the media about rob
beries.
Burglary
Lincoln police arrested a 14
year-old boy they caught breaking
into an auto repair shop and at
tempting to steal a customer’s car.
Sometime between 4:20 a.m.
and 5:20 a.m. Sunday, a witness re
ported seeing a boy trying to hot
L wire a Jeep at Wilhelm Auto Repair,
1342 High St., Heermann said.
He had apparently broken a win
dow to the shop and snatched keys
to 12 vehicles, Heermann said.
He was still trying to start the
Jeep when police arrived,
Heermann said.
Police suspect the boy was in
volved in two auto thefts from
Wilhelm Auto Repair last week in
which a Honda CRX and a Mercury
Capri were stolen. The burglar in
that case also broke into the shop
and took the keys.
Police are looking for an addi
tional suspect in the case.
Burglary
A suspect slashed into the in
flated domes of the Woods Tennis
Complex Saturday night and stole
cash from the office.
The canvas walls were cut
enough for the suspect to slip into
the complex at 401 S. 33rd St.
Between 9:15 p.m. Saturday and
5:30 ajn. Sunday, the burglar rum
maged through cabinets and draw
ers in the complex office and took
$519 in cash.
T\vo men held in custody after
trying to sell cocaine in Lexington
LEXINGTON (AP) — Two men
accused of trying to sell cocaine and
fleeing from police were in custody.
Police said a pound of cocaine es
timated to be worth up to $14,000 was
seized after the 31-year-old and 33
year-old men, both from Lexington,
were seen making a drug deal Friday.
Police said the men fled on foot, and
one was arrested at the scene. The other
hopped aboard a moving Union Pacific
coal train headed west. Police
stopped the train about 50 miles awaj
near Maxwell and arrested the suspect
Both men were being held Monday
on suspicion of illegal drug distribu
tion and obstructing police officers

Two Clarks citizens win with write-in votes
CLARKS (AP) — TWo unwitting
candidates received enough write-in
votes last TUesday to take village board
positions in this eastern Nebraska
town.
Tim Bittinger said he was mulling
over whether to accept. Tim Szatko
said he will serve.
No candidates ran for the offices in
the village of 450 people. Mayor Steve
Meyer said it was the first time he can
remember that no one ran for the board.
Merrick County Clerk Gloria
Broekemeier said Bittinger received 34
votes and Szatko had 28.
Bittinger, president of Clarks Tele
phone Co., said he had heard of an in
formal movement by Meyer to write
him into office.
“I was not seeking it,” Bittinger
said. “I wouldn’t let my wife write my
name in.”
Szatko said he hadn’t considered
running for the job until one woman
asked him a week ago if she could put
his name down.
Meyer said, “They should both be
good board members.”
