All but six counties hail
Hagel for U.S. Senate
HAGEL from page 1
to put signs up and get the vote out.
“And you saw the strength of
that last night.”
John Hibbing, a University of
Nebraska-Lincoln political science
professor, said Hagel’s show of
strength was a show of strength for
Republican voter registration ad
vantages in Nebraska.
“There was not one comer of the
state that turned the tide,” he said.
“It was a whopping statewide.”
Republicans have a 49 to 3 8 per
cent advantage in voter registration
in Nebraska. Furthermore, 43 per
cent of Nebraska’s Republicans are
living in the 3rd congressional dis
trict.
Hibbing said if the Republicans
can put up a well-financed, articu
late, personable candidate in Ne
braska, that candidate is going to be
hard to beat. But Nebraska’s Demo
crats probably were not rattled by
the state GOP’s strong showing, he
said.
“Democratic candidates in Ne
braska are aware that they have an
uphill battle to fight.”
