DOING IT...
Hie terms "scholar" and
"athlete" rarely make more perfect
sense together in the same sentence than when
they precede Jason Valasek's name.
A three-sport athlete in high school,
Valasek has concentrated in college on his
one true athletic passion: softball. Jason
competes with three fast-pitch softball clubs.
His Omaha Northwest team has finished no
worse than fourth at Nationals for the past
three years. Valasek is Omaha Northwest’s
premier pitcher.
Despite his rigorous softball schedule, Valasek
maintains a 3.9 GPA with a major in psychology and
minors in biology, sociology, and business.

Cheer on the football team as it continues its quest for an unprecedented third
£ straight national title with home games against Missouri on November 9 and Colorado Novem
ber 29. Test your own football skills en route to the game by stopping by the NIKE booth and
^ throwing your way to free NIKE stuff. I’ll be stationed at the Sigma Chi house just east
of the stadium on Vine Street before kickoff. . . November is a big month for the swimming
I and diving teams. The NIKE Sprint Classic on November 22 is a fun way for swim
m mers to show their true colors in the most exciting events, the sprint races. Come support the
swim teams and watch for free NIKE stuff.
E Tiger's Time
When 20-year-old Tiger Woods turned pro in late August, he had in mind a modest goal: to
Seam enough money in the remaining two months of the season to automatically qualify for
the PGA tour again next spring. Anything beyond that would be gravy. Well, pass the
gravy.
The first weekend in October, Woods won the Las Vegas Invitational. The win
clinched an automatic spot on the tour for the next two years and a check for
$297,000. Two weeks later, Woods won the Walt Disney
World/Oldsmobile Classic and $216,000.
Woods has a chance to load up on even
more gravy Thanksgiving
weekend, and not just at the dinner table.
The Skins Gome is an annual made-for-televi
sion (ABC, specifically) event pitting four marquee golfers
against each other in an unorthodox format that rewards clutch play.
Tiger’ll be the one pumping his fist.
Flag football players: Think you’re ready to take your game to the
national level? The NIKE College Flag Football regional tournament
will be held November 15-17 at the University of Nebraska. Winners receive an expens
es-paid trip to the National Championship in New Orleans the week of the Nokia
Sugar Bowl in late December. Contact Mark Powell at (402) 472-4763 for more information.
