Lincoln’s Snow Plan
The intensity of a winter storm will dictate
which steps in Lincoln's snow removal plan are
implemented. Carefully review the map and the
step by step explanation of Lincoln's Snow
Removal Plan.
During inclement weather, please keep /
informed on the status of snow removal
operations. The news media will announce when
Snow Emergencies or residential parking bans
are declared. If you have questions about snow
removal efforts or the parking bans, call the
SNOW CENTER, 441-7644.
$ Sanding Operations
When freezing precipitation begins to fall,
Public Works trucks begin spreading material on
major streets, bus routes and known trouble
spots. This phase doesn't involve a parking ban.
However, the status of snow removal operations
may change as a storm intensifies, so keep
informed.
$ Snow Emergency
When m$jor streets must be plowed, the
Mayor may declare a SNOW EMERGENCY.
During a Snow Emergency, parking is banned on
Emergency Snow Routes, alt Arterial Streets
and Bus Routes. Cars parked or stalled on these
streets are subject to a $40 fine and could be
towed at the owner's expense.
Snow routes must remain open for emergency
vehicles, so these streets receive top priority.
Snow routes and arterial streets are shown on the
map. Look for bus route signs to identify bus
routes in residential areas.
$ Residential Parking Bans
Residential streets are NOT plowed after every
storm. When a residential clean-up operation is
required, the Mayor will declare a residential
parking ban. The fine for parking in violation of
the ban is $25 and illegally parked cars could be
towed. In high density population areas, parking
will be banned on either the even or s
odd-numbered sides of the street. In the
remaining residential areas, parking will be
banned on both sides. The news media will
indicate when these bans go into effect and are
rescinded. Following is an explanation of the
residential parking restrictions.
Odd-Even Parking Ban. For shaded areas on j||
the map, the Mayor will declare a parking ban on 11
either the even or odd-numbered side of the
street. Once all streets have been cleared on one 11
side, the ban will be switched to the other side.
The news media will indicate when the ban is
switched or is rescinded.
Total Parking Ban. Parking will be banned on ||
both sides of the street in residential *
neighborhoods not included in the shaded areas
of the map. Parking will be allowed on these
streets, once snow is cleared from both sides, if
you anticipate an off-street parking problem,
please plan in advance where you will park.
While this plan will save time and money, it will
require community cooperation.
