Hie Huskers opened the week
end with a 15-8,13-15,15-7,15-9
win cm Friday over No. 10 Texas
A&M at the coliseum. The defense
continued to shine for Nebraska,
which held the Aggies (16-3 and 7
1 after a Saturday win at Colorado)
to a .153 hitting percentage.
NU had its way with A&M star
Kristie Smedsrud. The junior out
side hitter was held to 13 kills, hit
ting minus-.021 against a defense
that posted 75 digs and 24 blocks.
Husker setter Fiona Nepo re
corded 55 set assists, six kills and
tied the match-high dig total with
18. Reitsma led the way at the net
with 25 kills and eight blocks.
With consecutive wins over
A&M and Texas, Nebraska now
stands alone atop the Big 12 Con
ference standings.
“Realistically,” Haley said,
“nobody’s packed it in on winning
the conference. But Nebraska is
definitely in the driver’s seat.”

Chi Friday, Isabelle Momeau led the
Nebraska attack with three goals.
Eddleman, Uppinghouse, Kristen Gay,
Jenny Benson, and Sharolta Nonen
also scored. The Huskers scored four
times in the opening half, the first goal
coming from Gay at the 2:14 mark, the
fastest score in die history of the NU
program.
Momeau scored all of her goals
after halftime. Nebraska attempted 24
shots (Mi goal and 33 total shots and
held the Tigers (3-10 and 2-4) to eight
shots and six on goal.
“I’m not very happy about giving
up eight shots,” Walker said. “That’s
too many. I think we can definitely play
better than we did today.”
The Huskers conclude regular-sea
son Big 12 play Friday against Baylor
in Waco, Texas and Sunday against
Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas.
NU escapes with win
TECH from page 8
zone on third down and 8 from the
NU 4-yard line, was intercepted by
Robert Johnson, who returned the
ball nine yards for his first career
touchdown, tying the game at seven
with 3:31 remaining in the opening
quarter.
Following the interception, the
Nebraska offense responded with a
13-play, 53-yard drive, regaining
the lead on a 39-yard Kris Brown
field goal with 14:13 remaining in
the second quarter.
“Offensively at times, we moved
the ball well against a good defense,
but I was really disappointed in the
execution,” Osborne said. “We need
to take care of the football.”
NU committed three turnovers
in the first half: Frost’s interception,
a Benning fumble at the Tech 23 and
a dropped pitch by Green, which
gave Red Raiders the football at
midfield with 1:52 left in the half.
Tech tied the game at 10 when
Jaret Greaser hit a 29-yard field goal
with 3:37 left in the half,
“We needed touchdowns in this
game,” said Lethridge, who com
pleted 11 of 30 passes for 112 yards.
“We knew field goals weren’t go
ing to help us out too much.”
Both teams had opportunities to
grab the lead before the half, but
Greaser pushed a 50-yard field goal
attempt left, and Brown’s 49-yard
attempt fell short as time expired in
the first half.
Despite the blown opportunities,
Stokes said, escaping Lubbock with
a win was a great accomplishment.
“You can’t win the national
championship or even the Big 12
championship if you don’t play well
on the road,” Stokes said.
But there is a long road left to
hoe, Osborne said.
“You just occasionally have a
game like that,” Osborne said. “We
had one at Arizona State, and we
had one here. We’ve got to get to
work and make sure it doesn’t hap
pen anymore.”
