fights to fit
in with Angels
ERSTAD from page 7
fell into a groove.
California Manager Marcel
Lachemann, who was later fired, de
cided to establish rotation among the
four outfielders after Edmonds’ return.
But the production of both Erstad and
leftfielder Garret Anderson dropped,
prompting Erstad’s demotion back to
Vancouver on Aug. 3.
“Fortunately, I was getting on base
—so it made things easier on diem to
keep playing me,” said Erstad who
was the starting punter for the NU
football team in 1995.
“But when (Edmonds) came back,
the right decision was made. Getting
sent down was one of the most hum
bling experiences of my life.”
Erstad, who hit .305 with six home
runs and 41 RBI in Vancouver this
season, will finish the year in Califor
nia — currently in last place in the
American League West Division —
and try not to worry about his future
in the crowded Angel outfield.
