That was a tough lesson the Ne , , braska volley ball team learned Saturday night in the championship match of the State Farm/ NACWAA Vol leyball Classic, in which No. 1 Hawaii beat Ljungquist iiitn-ranjceci inu in three games. With NU leading 13-11 in game two, Ljungquist apparently slammed a ball to the flow for a sideout, but as she and her teammates celebrated, the floor official ruled Ljungquist had touched the net. “I’m usually the one to say if the ref makes a right call 'Yes I did touch the net.’ But I didn’t feel myself touch the net,” the tournament’s outstanding player said. “I put it down the next time, and we kind of fed off that for a couple of points. The emotional shift was evident on the ensuing play, when Ljungquist smashed the ball to the same spot on the flow. This time it was a sideout. The Rainbow Wahine scored four consecutive points, taking a 15-14 lead in game two. Hawaii won the game on a Joselyn Robins kill. Ljungquist, a native of Vallentuna, Sweden, is good friends with Nebraska’s Maria Hedbeck, who is from Sollentuna, Sweden. Ljungquist said those four points at the end of game two changed die com plexion of the match. “If we wouldn’t have turned it on, we probably Would have lost that game,” Ljungquist said. “We knew we needed to raise our intensity level, and that was something we lacked in part of the whole match.” Intensity will be an important part of Hawaii’s team this season. For the first time since 1989, the Rainbow Wahine is ranked No. 1, add ing pressure to every match. The Rainbow Wahine returns five seniors, two of whom, Ljungquist and setter Robyn Ah Mow, are first-team All-Americans. Ljungquist is the catalyst of the team. She had 29 kills, 15 block assists and 25 digs in the two NACWAA matches. Ljungquist is just 66 block assists shy of the school-record 502. Despite his team’s good start, Rain bow Wahine Coach Dave Shoji said Hawaii still needs to improve. “I think we have room to grow, and this is good for us to play this type of competition early,” Shoji said. “We know we’ve got to go back into the gym, because we certainly have a lot of things to work on.” 1" Three Ring Binder • 8-1/2* x 11* • Available in seven colors • Double inside pockets list Price $3.05 77* OfficeMax Everyday Low Price 0400-4507 fEXZSSM Stick Pens • Superior >.* Medium or fine ball points • Black, blue or red ink List Price $5.M yy - OfficeMax Everyday Law Price 1000-03*7 wssnssB* File Tele • Accommodates letter/legal size files • Built-in rail for hanging files • Dust cover • Indigo blue list Pete $17.99 OfficeMax Everyday Lew Price 8312-4311 GSZsSSSISSi w» mm-— M-i-e-» rive siur noieoooK : • 8-1/2* x 11* Sheets • College Ruled • 100 Sheets list Price $4.15 *2" ^ffiaMnE*er^rLewW^8|*M»4» PAPERS MATE I Tteod Model #11-82 Graphing Calculolor • 8-line x 16-character • Equation solving capabilities • Back-up battery List Price $1 0204-W37 ' ^at&t I Answering Machine ^ . • Tapeless microchip recording r • .
