New club storms into old location of Hurricane bar From Staff Reports By the grace of God and a liquor license, Lincoln will have a new dance-oriented nightclub downtown. The club, called Hangar 18, will feature industrial, techno and dance music and will move into the space at 1118 O St., which formerly was oc cupied by the popular Hurricane bar. The owners of Hangar 18, broth ers Blue and J.R. Montgomery, Julie Squires and John Russell, all of Plattsmouth, own the Union Station bar there. “It (Hangar 18) will be like Ten Lies in Omaha, but not as polished,” Russell said. They had planned to open Han gar 18 by September, but hit a bureau cratic snag that will push back the opening date. The problem they are facing is an ordinance that says that an establishment cannot serve li quor within 300 feet of a school or a school-owned building, Russell said. Hangar 18 is located across from a building owned by Southeast Com munity College. If Hangar 18 is denied a liquor li cense, the owners will apply for a li cense to sell beer only, Russell said. But if that happened, it would not be an industrial dance music club. In stead, “It would be just like the old Hurricane,” he said. Russell cited the bars Wallaby’s Down Under Pub, Grotto’s and Deca dence as being close to the Southeast Community College-owned building also. These places are able to serve liquor. ■son ■ Antiques ■ Floral - Gifts * • Primitive & Country Art • Stop in and see our unique gift lines including.. Gourmet Foods.
