Topping the list of performers are Carnegie Hall Jazz Band Director Jon Faddis and “Saturday Night Live’s” trombonist Steve Turre. The 1996-97 season will begin on Sept. 6 with Grammy Award-winner Alison Krauss and the Union Station Band, whose sound has been de scribed as a cross between bluegrass and country. On Sept. 13 and 14, “Jam on the Groove,” a New York-based street dancing musical that combines break dancing, rap and hip-hop will come to the Lied. The show could be com pared to last season’s “Stomp.” On Sept. 27, a multimedia opera including videos, lighting and slides based loosely cm Willa Cather’s novel “Song of the Lark” will be performed by Meredith Monk and Ensemble. October will be highlighted with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Andre Previn on Oct. 4. Dancers, singers and musicians . from 14 American Indian tribes will be on stage Oct. 7 with the American Indian Dance Theatre Company. The Broadway musical “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” starring Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, will pay tribute to jazz-great Fats Waller on Oct. 18 and 19. The American Ballet Theatre, un der the direction of Kevin McKenzie, will hit Lincoln with its troupe of 50 on Oct. 24 and 25. October will wind up with Faddis leading the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band on the 26th. On Nov. 1,60 performers with the National Song and Dance Ensemble from Lhasa, Tibet, will perform their brand of world music with their 12 foot-long trumpets and other unique musical instruments. On Nov. 8, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center will per form. Nov. 15, Turre and his band, the Sanctified Shells, will perform using sea shells, trombones and trumpets. Comedy will come to Lincoln on Nov. 21,22 and 23 with the team of Rajekas and Intraub performing at the Johnny Carson Theatre. The fall season at the Lied will round out in December with the UNL Department of Theatre Arts and Dance performing the Charles Dickens classic “A Christmas Carol” on the 13th, 14th and 15th. Most shows at the Lied begin at 8 pan., and ticket prices range from $ 14 to $42, with half-price tickets for stu dents with an ID.
