Tanna Kinnaman/DN Brooke Munford, 6, catches a ride through the block party with her dad, Marc Munford. in fundraiser program so visiting teens can have a meal when they stay for the evening. “We have 45 or 50 teens a day (at the Lighthouse),” Allman said. “Because a lot of them stay from after school until we close, we noticed a lot of kids weren’t eating anything. We need to get a food line there to help them out.” Allman and Basler also agreed the fund raising committee would approve a similar event next year. “When something is this successful, you can’t help but try it again,” Basler said. “I think we’ll probably do it again next year, but even better.” Allman said there was an even more im portant reason for holding another block party. “This isn’t just about getting money,” he said. “The biggest part of fund-raising is friend-raising, as well.” Mami Speck/DN More than 600 people came out the block party on 27th and Eastgate Streets. The fundraiser for the Lighthouse raised more than $13,000.
