Photographer defines youth [ By Stephanie Wreed Staff Writer For Rob Walters, a picture truly can say a thousand words. Walters, a senior art education ma jor at the University of Nebraska-Lin coln, hopes to portray American ide ologies and the loss of tradition and identity of American youth using a seemingly simple medium — color photography. “Youth today have no identity, so they recycle old ones,” he said. His photographs have been CD covers for local alternative rock bands including Plastic Trumpet and Lullaby for the Working Class, his first cover. Music is a great part of American culture, Walters said. Band members come to Walters lor photographs, but he refuses to stage photos for the bands. “If someone asks me to stage a photograph, I tell them to take the picture themselves,” he said. “Any body can do that.” Walters said he preferred ideas that See WALTERS on 6 Science kits made for girls By Heidi White Staff Writer ■» Sea otters, parasites and poison frogs could be the key to keeping young girls interested in science. The Wonderwise Project, devel oped by the University of Nebraska State Museum, is a series of five kits containing materials relating to women scientists and their work.
