Berringer Continued from Page 1 After home Nebraska football games, she would walk around Memorial Stadium pick ing up plastic stadium cups for her son to autograph. She then would give the cups to her students. One of her former students, who is now in sixth grade, wrote her a letter after Berringer’s death. In the letter he explained how Brook Berringer touched his life and how the cup was something he would trea sure forever. But there were other things Berringer said she enjoyed hearing. • After Lawrence Phillips was drafted in the first round by the St. Louis Rams, he wore a No. 18 hat in memory of Berringer. • On Wednesday night Mark Miller, lead singer of Sawyer Brown, wore Berringer’s jersey at the 31st annual Country Music Awards and wrote a song for him. • Nebraskans drove with their lights on and flew flags at half-mast on Friday. “I want to take this opportunity to thank you and share my appreciation for the love and compassion others are demonstrating for Brook,” Berringer said. “Such an outpour ing of support for someone we loved so very much is more than we could have imagined.” Police look out for car thieves Students living on University of Nebraska Lincoln campuses should protect their vehicles during the last days of school, a UNL police officer said. Sgt. Mylo Bushing said thieves tended to hit campus parking lots heavily this time of year to get the goods before they were gone. Police reported three vehicle break-ins Wednesday night and expect more in the up coming days if students aren’t careful, Bushing said. Students can protect themselves from thefts by not loading their vehicles — cm- by loading only their trunks — the night before they leave, Bushing said. “They’ll have these things in their cars that are too tempting to thieves.” They also should lock their vehicles in be tween loads or have someone watch their ve hicles, he said. For the next week, UNL police will be pa trolling campus parking lots closely. Bushing said, but students need to do their part to pre vent crimes. — Chad Lorenz "Ill ..L,1~.“".^ "~ ‘ mf M'^.Im ^iil ' WSL£ to 'V/ ^ Check out the List ^ Ibday Noon-10 MADNESS HOURS!
