ever, her performance was the weak
est of the three main characters.
Gere should be adept at playing
semi-scumball material; it seems to
be a regular thing for him. The part
is one he has down well, and he rates
second as the lawyer out to capture
the media’s eye.
The most haunting performance
comes from Norton. But to avoid the
risk of spoiling one of the film’s sur
prises, I can’t tell you why. I can say
that Norton is nothing short of pure
brilliance in this film. Not since
Anthony Hopkins’ portrayal of
Hannibal Lecter has an actor’s char
acter remained so strongly ingrained
in my skull.
With the exception of a few slow
moments and a couple of slightly
frayed plot threads, “Primal Fear”
is an excellent film, well-played to
a tee.

in the poor, predominantly black
areas of Chicago.
He is just one of the characters
who are so incredibly real that I can
see people I know in them.
Jones is a man who can take over
any role and make it memorable. His
deep voice combines with his over
whelming stage presence that brings
every character to life.
Because Jones is physically
larger than Duvall, he is the one who
teaches the other more about life. He
laughs at him when he does some
thing stupid, but then he turns
around and helps him out when he
needs it. He plays the hard-working,
dignified man who everyone ad
mires in almost every one of his
roles.
The film is packed with emo
tional moments that will definitely
have the audience pulled in for the
duration. I almost had a few tears in
my eyes in the first 10 minutes, and
by the end, the sleeves of my jacket
were soaked.
This is one movie that will fill
you with warm fuzzies, and I would
not be surprised if you have an over
whelming urge to call home and talk
to your mother when you get out of
the theater.
