    Aging Ozzy stages tired show
By Patrick Hambrecht
Music Critic
Ozzy Osbourne delighted fans
without doing much at the packed
Omaha Civic Auditorium on Fri
day. Though he
was barely au
dible and often
forgot the
words to songs,
he performed
favorites like
“War Pigs,”
and “Crazy
Train” for the
wildly enthusi
astic crowd.
“I can’t hear
you! You’re not wild enough yet!
When you’re with Ozzy, you do
whatever the fuck you want to!” the
singer said, conjuring a medieval
stylcd circus environment.
In many ways, the concert was
more of a chance to pay tribute to
Osbourne than to listen to him.
While his words were drowned out
by the shouting crowd, women ex
posed themselves from the shoul
ders of their boyfriends. Bare
chested boys pushed and smashed
into each other, moshing and scuf
fling occasionally.
Not all fans were so excited.
Steve Jacobson, a senior geology
major at UNL, said he was disap
pointed by Osbourne’s perfor
mance.
“He’s pretty washed-up,”
Jacobson said after the show.
Amid all the usual sex and vio
lence rituals of heavy-metal cul
ture, Osbourne acted more like a
ringleader than a singer. Using
mannerisms ana ooay language
similar to that of professional wres
tler Hulk Hogan, he encouraged his
fans to scream louder, jump higher
and wave their arms around a lot.
Osbourne’s dwindling abilities
hardly mattered in the midst of this
frenzy. After suffering a stroke re
cently, he walked in short, uncer
tain steps as though his shoelaces
were tied together. His vocals were
mixed softly into the music, so his
mistakes and forgotten lines would
be unobserved.
Revered for past acts such as
urinating on the Texas Alamo, eat
ing live animalsand assorted occult
stunts, Osbourne continues to at
tract a young audience with hi s flam
boyant, hocus-pocus reputation. But
when it came to a straight live per
formance, Osbourne just wasn’t up
to his old standards.

Mardi Gras in Lincoln
From Staff Reports
Want to celebrate Mardi Gras this
year, but can’t get to New Orleans?
The Haymarket is holding its own
Mardi Gras this year.
Tonight at the Lincoln Station, Sev
enth & P streets, Duggans, County
Cork Liquor and Open Harvest will
hold an All-You-Can-Eat bullet from
7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

with crawfish, alligator and sausage

choux, black-eyed pea salad and pe

All of the authentic Cajun food is
by Chef Craig Kelly.
There also will be dancing. The
New Orleans style rhythm and blues
will be played by Champaign Jerry
and the Vegetarians.
The doors will open at 6:30 p.m.,
and tickets are $19.95 per person.
The best performance, next to
Pacino’s, comes from David Paymer,
who plays Abe Goodman, the mayor’s
chief of staff. Paymer comes across as
shrewd, wise and in the know, as well
as clean.
Despite a few setbacks, “City Hall”
is a good flick regarding real-world
politics, back-room deals and the way
the system works.
