Motley led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a homer, but Ne braska could pull no closer. Steve Fish (1-1) took the loss for 2-2 Nebraska, which will play sixth-ranked Arizona State today at 7 p.m. in the Fiesta Bowl Diamond Classic. Texas Tech im proved to 7-0. Wrestlers hit mats The third-ranked Nebraska wres tling team will face Northern Iowa at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center indoor track. The Comhuskers, J3-3-1 after de feating Missouri on Wednesday night, have defeated 10 ranked opponents this season. That does not include Oklahoma, which Nebraska defeated Feb. 3. The Huskers later had to for feit because Mike Eierman was ruled ineligible. Nebraska is finished with Big Eight dual competition. After Northern Iowa, the Huskers face Wyoming on Feb. 24. The Big Eight Champion ships will be held March 9 in Stillwater, Okla. Northern Iowa, 4-9, which was nationally ranked earlier this season, has defeated James Madison, North east Missouri, the University of Ne braska at Omaha and Eastern Illinois this year. - NU on home stretch Partial squads for the Nebraska men’s and women’s track and field teams will be in action today at the Bob Devaney Sports Center indoor track in the NLAC Invite. The meet, to which Nebraska Wesleyan will play host, will begin at 4 p.m. and last until about 10 p.m. This meet is important to many of Nebraska’s athletes because it will decide roster spots for the Big Eight Championships. This is the last meet for Nebraska before the Big Eight Championships, which will be held Feb. 23-24 at the Devaney Center. Each Big Eight team is allowed to enter only 24 men and 24 women in the conference championships. Comhusker coach Gary Pepin said Nebraska had about 17 men and 10 women who were on the bubble enter ing the Big Eight Championships. NU heads to Texas The Nebraska softball .team will □pen its season today at the Pepsi Intercollegiate Classic in Arlington, Texas. The Comhuskers won the tour nament last season, posting six straight victories. Nebraska coach Rhonda Revelle said she hoped to improve on last season’s team, which advanced to NCAA Regional play for the first time since 1988. “Our expectations are higher than last year,” Revelle said. “If we have all cylinders firing, we’re capable of com peting at a national championship level.” NU tennis in action After going 1-2 last weekend, the Nebraska men’s tennis team is back in the swing of things this weekend. The Comhuskers will take on Drake at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa. Last weekend, Nebraska was defeated by Texas A&M and South Alabama, while defeating Baylor. Galligan said the Huskers believed they would need 20 wins to get in the tournament. “We just take one game at a time,” Galligan said. “We’re not putting pres sure on ourselves, but we just look at who we’re playing next. We are far more focused for the game ahead of us.” To sweep the Tigers for the sixth consecutive year, Nebraska must find all-around title of the year, scoring a season-high 39.175 points. The Huskers defeated Missouri 73 68 in overtime on Jan. 19 in Columbia, Mo. In the first meeting, Martin was held to 11 points but led the Tigers with 13 rebounds. In conference games, Martin leads the Big Eight in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 21 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Martin also leads the Big Eight in assists, averaging 4.6 per game. But in the first game, the Huskers countered Martin with their own scoring attack.
