ASUN asks for Moeser’s input
Bill says students, department must cooperate
By Kasey Kerber
Staff Reporter
Chancellor James Moeser will meet
with ASUN for the first time tonight,
and a bill dealing
with him will be pre
sented.
“Certainly the
biggest thing on
our agenda will be
a bill that’s aimed
towards the athletic
department’s
possible seating
changes,” said
Shawntell Hurtgen,
president of the Association of Stu
dents of the University of Nebraska.
Government Bill No. 18 requests
that Moeser “issue a firm order to the
athletic department” to make no fur
“We appreciate that they
(the Athletic
Departmettt) are
including us within the
decision. ”

his approval.
The bill also will call for the Ath

leaders and establish a standing com

Six couples called in response to
the contest on KFRX’s morning show
for couples who wanted to be married
on Valentine’s Day. The contest, held
last Thursday and Friday, also gener
ated 50 calls for vow renewals.
Everson and Chrastil had their
names drawn Monday morning on the
KFRX morning show, “the Donut
holes,” said Program Director Sonny
Valentine.
“Andy Vaughn and Kristi London,
the show’s hosts, thought it was a pretty
zany concept,” Valentine said. “The
show likes to get listeners involved, so
they do lots of contests. This was tai
lor-made to work for us.”
Rev. “Donut hole” Michael
McGregor, a pastor at the First United
ing with student admission, seating
and spirit activities.
Hurtgen said she and other ASUN
senators were pleased with how the
Athletic Department had strived to
work with ASUN on the student seat
ing issue.
“Our reaction has been positive so
far,” Hurtgen said. “We appreciate
that they (the Athletic Department) are
including us within the decision.”
Hurtgen said she hoped Moeser
would give input on the bill.
Hurtgen said there also was still
fear that a student seating change may
occur.
“We feel reassured about having
input, but there is still a great deal of
apprehension,” Hurtgen said. “That’s
why this bill was drafted.”
Methodist Church and a student in
UNL’s Ph.D. program for social per
sonality psychology, will be presid
ing.
“It’s the first time I’ve done any
thing like this,” McGregor said. “It’s
a great way for people to spend
Valentine’s Day together. There’s a
lot of pressure to do something special
and unique.”
As part of their gift package, Val
entine said, Everson and Chrastil won
a an Omni Travel honeymoon trip to
Las Vegas.
Morris said three couples renewing
their vows will also receive prizes. A
night at the Comhusker Hotel, a gift
certificate from Lazio’s and a gift cer
tificate from Jabrisco’s round out the
prizes.
