UNL to profit from library ATM By Erin Schulte Staff Reporter A library may seem a strange place for an ATM, but one UNL librarian decided Love Library would be a good spot for a new cash machine. Debra Pearson, head of circulat ion, said the ATM installed at Love Li brary over semester break would be convenient — both for students who would have written small checks for fines and for people attending football games. And, she said, both the library and the university will profit. “We both make money from it, and you guys benefit from having it in the area.” Cindy Morris, assistant to the vice chancellor for business and finance, said the new machine would bring in $300 rent each month, plus 10 cents per transaction. The profit will be evenly split between the library and university. Last year, the six cash machines on city and cast campuses brought in about $50,000, she said. Pearson said the idea for the ma chine came from library staff at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. She spent about six months leading a committee that worked with univer sity officials to get the ATM. After the idea was approved by Paul Carlson, interim vice chancellor for business and finance, bids were .sent out. Norwest Bank offered the university the best deal. “We both make money from it, and you guys benefit from having it in the area ” * DEBRA PEARSON Head of circulation, Love Library The machine at Love Library was installed Dec. 23, Pearson said. It is available when the library is open, 7 a.m. to midnight Monday through Fri day, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to midnight on Sunday. BOWLERS!
