Decorations aren’t limited to the outdoors. This display in
Ann Day’s front window is only the beginning.
It’s a winter wonderland of lights. The backyard display is visible from 28th Street, but a more
close-up view can be found from the alley running behind the festive home.

Even after someone stole more
than $500 in decorations four years
ago, Day didn’t falter. At first, she
said, she was upset.
“Then I said, ‘Well, maybe they
need it more than I do... if it’s gonna
make a better Christmas for them.’”

in return. Day was out walking when
she met a 6-year-old boy. He was in
his yard, alone, with a couple strands
of lights — decorating.“I said ‘yeah,
that’s right, that’s right.’ You don’t
have to be rich or have everything.
It’s the spirit. That’s amazing.”
