three of which came in the first half.
The Tigers also punted 11 times.
The Tigers rushed for a season
low 39 yards on 39 attempts and
had only 83 yards passing for 122
total yards. Missouri’s offense did
improve some over last week,
though, as the Tigers gained four
more yards of total offense against
Nebraska.
Smith said Nebraska’s defense
played a part in the Tigers’
struggles.
“It was a hell of a revampment,”
Smith joked. “There are certain
things we know we have to do more.
We still ran the same plays, but
when it just comes down to it, you
only have so many plays.”
Unfortunately, 2-4 Missouri may
have had too far to go and too few
plays to execute Saturday.
Against Nebraska, the Tigers
used three quarterbacks — Bran
don Corso, Kent Skomia and Corby
Jones.
Smith put Jones, who was
brought out of a redshirt season to
play against Nebraska, in the game
to give the Tigers a new look on
offense. But Jones had just 13 yards
rushing on eight carries, and one of
his two passing attempts was picked
off by Tony Veland.
Smith said Missouri kept the of
fense simple, so Jones could adjust.
“I didn’t go out there and make
any stupid decisions,” Jones said.
“Some players have butterflies, but
after my first play out there, I was
ready to go.”

the comer of the end zone by split end
Brendan Holbein for a touchdown as
time expired. The touchdown put Ne
braska up 28-0.
“That ’s not the way we pract iced i t,
but I’ll take it,” Frazier said.
The defense came through again at
the start of the second half when jun
ior Terrell Farley blocked a punt out
of the end zone for a safety and a 30
0 lead with 9:42 left in the third quar
ter.
The offense dominated after the'
safety as it scored on its next four
possessions.
After the safety, Green finished
Nebraska’s next drive off with a 9
yard touchdown run, and Frazier fol
lowed with a 6-yard touchdown pass
to Sheldon Jackson on the next pos
session.
The pass gave Frazier five touch
downs on the day (three rushing and
two passing) and 64 on his career,
breaking Steve Taylor’s all-time
Husker record of 62 touchdowns.
Quarterback Matt Turman and I
back Damon Benning both followed
with touchdown runs to end
Nebraska’s scoring at 57 points.
Missouri didn’t pass the 100-yard
mark in total yards until the fourth
quarter, with a little more than five
minutes left in the game.
“We don’t talk much about total
yards, but holding them to that much
was really sweet,” linebacker Ryan
Terwilliger said. “We’ve steadily been
improving.”

as we can depending on her health,”
Noth said. “She was doing fine, and
we discussed in between each game
whether or not we would leave her in
the match.”
Nebraska won its 15th consecutive
match and extended a school record
by winning its 45th straight game.
Despite the lineup experiments, Noth
said the coaching staff was disap
pointed that Nebraska struggled at
times against 4-16 Missouri.
Weston led all players with 11 kills,
14 digs and hit a match-high .455.
Outside hitter Billie Winsett added
eight kills, six digs and two solo blocks.
The Huskcrs held Missouri to a -
.062 hitting percentage, the third time
this season a Nebraska opponent has
had a negative percentage this season.
But the Huskers hit only .279, more
than 50 points below their season av
erage, and committed 11 service er
rors.
“We try to take a step toward the
national championship in every
match,” Noth said. “In this match, I
think we took a baby step backwards.”
