Converse gives team new look

The Nebraska men’s basketball
team will sport a new look for the
1995-96 season thanks to Converse.
The Comhuskers will have new
shoes coordinated with new uniforms
for the upcoming basketball season,
the company announced.
Converse will launch the program
by conducting the Voltage $10,000
Scholarship Contest. The contest will
allow a Nebraska student an opportu
nity to shoot for the scholarship at the
team’s Midnight Blues practice ses
sion, Oct. 15.
Entry blanks to compete in the
contest are located throughout cam
pus, and the winner will be selected
on Oct. 13 to participate in the con
test.
Nebraska will not unveil the new
uniforms until the team’s first exhibi
tion game on Nov. 8.

Snyder, in his seventh year at Kan
sas State, said he and Kansas coach
Glen Mason felt the same about the
current rankings.
“I think this is a tribute to high
school football and college football in
the state of Kansas,” Snyder said. “We
have two very fine schools and very
fine programs. But we also realize that
you’re only as good as your last game.
I think Glen feels the same.
Mason, whohas been the Jayhawks’
coach since 1988, downplayed the
rankings, and said that the jump did
“absolutely nothing” to Kansas. ”
But McCamey wasn’t as quick to
downplay what the high rankings
meant to the conference.
“It’s great for the Big Eight,” he
said. “There are some really outstand
ingteams in the Big Eight this year. To
have five teams in the top 12 says
something.”
Colorado witnessed the balance of
the Big Eight first-hand Saturday,
dropping its first conference game to
a team other than Nebraska since a 17
14 loss to Oklahoma in 1988.

This is not the year to jump off
the Nebraska bandwagon. Heading
down the home stretch toward the
Big 12, Nebraska needs the support
of its students now more than ever.
The last time the Huskers failed
to make the tournament, 1990, they
came back with a 26-win season,
the best in school history. The 1995
Huskers have the same talent and
leadership, if not better, to do that
again.
It would be sad if the students
weren’t there to see it.
