Party members practice yoga regu larly and believe it can reduce society’s problems. “I’ve been doing yoga for 18 years and it is certainly effective,” Dunn said. “Yoga is nature’s government. A whole universe and the whole cre ation arises during yoga.” Yoga and other natural activities are part of the Natural Law Party’s campaign. The party, formed in 1992, is now the nation’s third largest. Dunn discussed the Natural Law Party’s platform goals, which include: natural, prevention-oriented health care programs, field-tested commu nity crime prevention programs and the improvement of education through programs that develop the inner cre ative genius of students. “We would try to implement any plan that has been proven to improve education,” Dunn said. “Yogic flying is one such program to consider. Right now we’d like to form a yogic-flying club on the UNL campus.” The Natural Party’s platform goals derive from the natural law theory. “The whole universe is governed by natural law,” Dunn said. “At the basis of all of nature is one unified field. It is a field of consciousness, in awakeness of itself.” After discussing platform goals, Dunn shifted attention to a yogic-fly ing demonstration. It featured five experienced yogic fliers, who sat in a yoga position and meditated silently for a few minutes. Then they began “hopping,” or mak ing short jumps up and down the mat. Hopping is a part of yoga that in creases the heart rate and improves mind/body coordination. Though the fliers didn’t actually levitate, Dunn said they might actu ally decrease crime in Lincoln after the demonstration. Jon Waller/DN Roy Falk meditates Tuesday prior to a yogic-flying demonstration by the Natural Law Party at the Cornhusker Hotel. “A group of thousands of yogic flyers in Washington D.C. gathered and over a two-month period attempted to decrease crime by 20 percent,"” Dunn said. “Forty independent researchers were brought in and now, just re cently, they have disclosed that crime did indeed decrease by exactly 20 1 percent” This job may cause EVT5EUE EAI ntniE excitability Rapid pulse. NSBA outlines rules faced by 19-year-olds in new handbook By Michelle Collins Staff Reporter Many teen-agers may notice that the older they get, the more responsi bilities they receive. At 16, many teen-agers begin driv ing. At 18, they are officially consid ered adults, they can register to vote, and males must register for the draft. But what happens at age 19? Teen-agers reach the age of “ma jority,” when responsibilities increase. The Nebraska State Bar Associa tion has funded, developed and dis tributed a handbook titled “On Reach ing the Age of Majority” to explain those responsibilities. Tom Keefe of NSBA said the hand book contained a list of about 34 re sponsibilities, which include enforc ing contracts, paying taxes and mak ing tenant-landlord agreements with out an undersigner. “The bar association and founda tion felt it was something young people could use,” Keefe said. The handbook has been distributed in schools across Nebraska. Teachers and other education officials have found the handbook useful, he said. “The feedback has been positive,” Keefe said. “We have received many comments from teachers, and they have felt it to be well written and useful for educational and informational pur poses.” | BEFORE YOU I HIT THE ROAD.
