Whee. However, the plus-side of this week is both movies are of decent caliber; one is even a clas sic for anyone in the family to en joy! To make up for the lack of new re leases this week, there are two — count‘emTWO— picks-of-the-week this week. “French Kiss” (PG) — One of the many romantic-comedies which have recently permeated our local cinema, “French Kiss,” available today, is a delight. Kate (Meg Ryan, who has come to be personified with romantic-com edies) travels to Paris to win her hus band back from another woman. Her plans go a bit awry, however, when she links up with mysterious French man Luc (Kevin Kline), who is not all what he seems. We’re not talking Oscar material here, but this is a wonderful film to watch with someone special. Rent “French Kiss,” warm up a couple of mugs of hot chocolate and enjoy. “Cinderella” (G) — The Disney classic is released on video Wednes day, and it is available for both sale and rental. The story is the same: fairy god mother helps girl look beautiful with magic, rats and a pumpkin so she can go to the ball. This Disney classic is out there, and it fits into any video collection like a glass slipper. PICKS-OF-THE-WEEK—There are already enough Jaughs and ro mance on tap in the new releases, so we’ll go with one horror and one ac tion-adventure flick for the picks-of the-week. For action, how about a classic Steve McQueen movie with one of the absolute best car-chase scenes in cin ■ & ematic history? It’s “Bullitt,” from 1968. McQueen plays a police detective assigned to protect a witness, but not everything is as it seems. Everything in this film is great, from the camera work to McQueen’s performance. For horror, the best kinds make your skin crawl and your spine shake. The sweat collects on your palms, and your nerves tighten up into one tense collection of fear. It looks like a normal house from the outside, but the inside is quite the different story. Have you ever experienced “The Amityville Horror?” A married couple (James Brolin and Margot Kidder) move into a house, which unbeknownst to them, is pos sessed by the Devil. This movie spawned at least three sequels, one of which was in 3-D, but none of them were even close to the original, and is considered to be one of the scariest movies of all time. Consider it a warm-up for Hallow een. Have fun! PEOPLE l-M-i-1 PI Physicist considers time travel possible LONDON (AP) — Physicist Stephen Hawking, who once doubted people could ever travel through time, now seems to be backtracking. Hawking’s forward to a new book, “The Physics of Star Trek” by Lawrence Krauss, indicates he has reconsidered, The Sunday Times re ported. “One of the consequences of rapid interstellar travel would be that one could also travel backward in time,” Hawking is quoted as saying. “If you combine Einstein’s general theory of relativity with quantum theory, it does begin to seem a possi C H R I S T M /^S Bin Wmm1 breaks STEAMBOAT BRECKENRIDGE ^jS8\ VAIL/BEAVER CREEkWf TOLL FREE INFORMATION ANO RESERVATIONS 1»800*SUNCHASE UNL Student Colorado Migration tottery October 3-5 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. TICKETS MUST BE PICKED UP IN BOULDER, CO. Hawking, Lucasian professor of mathematics at Cambridge Univer sity, is the author of the international best-seller “A Brief History of Time.” One ‘Ido’ not enough for ‘Baywatch’ star LOS ANGELES (AP) — “Baywatch” star Pamela Anderson wants to make a habit of getting mar ried to rocker Tommy Lee. “We’ve been married twicealready and we want to get married again in Venice, Italy, possibly on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day,” Anderson said in an “Extra” TV show interview for broadcast today. Earlier this year, the couple mar ried on a beach in Mexico and recited vows again during a private ceremony in Hawaii. “We just want to get married ev erywhere, and eventually my mom will be able to come. She hasn’t been to either one yet, and neither has Tommy’s family. It’s just kind,of whoever’s there,” she said. “We just kind of think of it at the last minute and get married.” Street named after country music legend BEAUMONT, Texas (AP)—He’s traveled a bumpy road to get to George Jones Place. The country music star, whose problems with alcohol and drugs have often made him a concert no-show, got a warm welcome home Sunday, when part of a Beaumont street was named in his honor. Hundreds of fans watched the mayor present Jones, 64, a proclama tion and a street sign in front of the Jefferson Theater, where he first per formed 51 years ago. “It’s such a sentimental thing,” Jones said. “It means more to me re ally than all the other things, except the hits.” Among his best-known songs on his more than 150 albums are “He Stopped Loving Her Today” and “The Race Is On.” Dom rescues spinoff from ‘Deep’ depths LOS ANGELES (AP) —Michael Dom, who played the Klingon Lt. Cmdr. Worf on “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” has been called in to keep “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” from disappearing into a wormhole. The spinoff sci-fi series has slipped in the ratings since its 1993 premiere in syndication. For Dom, it means 70 minutes of makeup every moming.“Actually, I had to weigh die thing with the makeup and also with what they were giving me,” Dom said. “And what they were offering far outweighed the makeup, or else I would not have done it.” Oprah may become first black billionaire NEW YORK (AP) — It may soon be Oprah with nine ‘Os.’ In Forbes magazine’s 1995 list of the 400 richest Americans, Oprah Winfrey stands at No. 399.
