NU softball ready for Big 12 invite From Staff Reports_ r Despite a second-place finish in the National Invitational Softball Tournament last weekend in Rock Island, 111., Nebraska coach Rhonda Revelle said the Comhuskers’ play was far from perfect. “Emotionally, we played well,” Revelle said, “but physically, we had some good moments and some bad ones.” Revelle said the 20-team tourna ment consisted of eight teams that played in the postseason last spring. The Huskers defeated Northern Iowa 5-3, topped Northern Illinois 10-5 and lost the championship game to Illinois State 5-4. Revelle said the preseason served as good experience to prepare Ne braska for the spring season. The Huskers are 13-5 heading into this weekend’s Big 12 Fall Classic, where they will open play against Kansas. “Kansas picked up some signifi cant recruits and we’re excited to play against them,” Revelle said. Offensively, Revelle said Ne braska would work to execute more sharply and concentrate on its hit ting. On defense, she said the team needed to focus on containing a game once capturing the lead. She said the Huskers had been having problems losing leads this fall. Four Huskers made the all-tourna ment team at the tournament last weekend: Heather Hanselmann, Stacie Stafford, Sarah Sinclair and Angela Blackwood. Sinclair also led all players with a .536 batting aver age.
