Buffaloes Continued from Page 7 success, we’ve got to have our crowd be a positive factor.” Last year, no intangibles worked for the Buffaloes as they lost four times to the Huskers after defeating them two of three times the year be fore. The Huskers humiliated Colo rado at Boulder last year 15-13,15-5, 15-2. “We’ve been on an up and down roller coaster ride,” Saindon said. “We’ve played some great matches, and we’ve lost some matches we should have won.” In the first match of the season, the Buffaloes defeated No. 14 Ohio State and have since beaten No. 16 Brigham Young. But five-game losses to Geor gia Tech and Georgia haven’t helped. Using three freshman starters has contributed to Colorado’s inconsis tent play, Saindon said. Setter Shelley Wolfe and outside hitters Tegan Lynch and Melissa Schutz all start for Colo rado. Saindon said he was scared of play ing a Nebraska team that was on a mission to win a national champion ship. “Idon’tknowifitistooearlytosay . this, but this Nebraska team could go down as one of the great teams in volleyball history,” he said. Osborne Continued from Page 7 playing God. That’s not interfering with the legal process. That’s just be ing a coach. You have to do those things.” - In the meantime, the Huskers’ de pleted I-back corps are without Phillips for at least one more game, and also will be minus the services of Clinton Childs (knee strain) and pos sibly Damon Benning (sprained ankle) against Washington State on Satur day. Benning did not practice Tuesday. If he does not practice today, Osborne said the junior from Omaha, who ran for 173 yards against Pacific, would not be able to contribute much on Saturday. “I-back is a place where you are always going to have some guys hurt,” Osborne said. “Probably if we played today, Ahman Green would be No. 1, James Sims No. 2, and Joel Makovicka No. 3.” Also at practice Wednesday, de fensive tackle Larry Townsend (knee) and split end Brendan Holbein (ankle) were held out. Sims (sore back), defensive tackle Jason Peter (ankle) and comerback Leslie Dennis (tendinitis) practiced. COLLEGE FOOTBALL FANS } . PLAY THE **ALL-STAR TOP TEN** CHALLENGE INSTANT CASH PRIZES!!! Huskers Continued from Page 7 Coach Terry Pettit said Nebraska should adapt well to what could be a hostile crowd at the Coors Event Cen ter. “I think we can go into about any where and we’re going to be real com petitive,” Pettit said. “Somebody’s going to have to play awfully good to beat us.” Last year, Nebraska responded well in Boulder, winning 15-13, 15-5,15 2 to clinch the Big Eight title. Weston said Nebraska hoped to have the same success it had last year in Boulder. “Last year we went in and we were so up for the game we kind of over whelmed them because they didn’t play well,” Weston said. “The crowd is usually hostile, and it’s always kind of fun to play in front of them.” Pettit said middle blocker Jen McFadden, who is still recovering af ter tearing her anterior cruciate liga ment last year, should see playing time. The Buffaloes started the season wel 1, beating ranked teams Ohio State and Brigham Young, but were de stroyed by No. 7 Notre Dame twice last weekend. “I think they’re maybe not as con sistent as they were last year,” Pettit said. “Nobody wants them to play well more than we do. It’s important to have great competition in your own conference.” ■ _I VSUQ»5UNCHASE|
