    Lady punk hitting Omaha
From Staff Reports
Punk rock fans who are a little
sick of the typically male-domi
■ nated world of rock-n-roil will have
the opportunity to explore their
feminine sides tonight at the Ranch
Bowl in Omaha.
The Muffs and Lunachicks, two
bands that have been making names
for themselves in the alternative
music industry in recent years, will
take the stage tonight at 9 for an all
ages show.
The Muffs are fronted by guitar
ist/vocalist Kim Shattuck, who
founded the band with bassist/
backup vocalist Ronnie Barnett in
early 1991. Drummer Roy
McDonald rounds off the Los An
geles-based trio.
Touring in support of the band’s
latest album, “Blonder and
Blonder,” the Muffs have gained
widespread recognition for their
catchy songwriting and energetic
1 live shows. The group’s blend of
punk and pop musical influences
has been echoed in the sounds ema
nating from today’s modem rock
stations and bands such as Green
Day.
Lunachicks is a five-piece band
' that has been around since 1987.
This all-girl ensemble has made a
point of challenging previous ste
reotypes surrounding female rock
bands with its collection of hard
rocking and unabashedly blunt
songs.
