Seniors Brady and Sherri Bonsall
are not only running side by side on
the Nebraska cross country team.
But also in life.
The two, who have been dating
since April 1994, got married on Aug.
5. -
The Bonsai Is are the only seniors
on the cross country teams this sea
son, and both are team captains of
' their respective teams.
“It’s kind of strange having both
captains being married to each other,”
Nebraska coach Jay Dirksen said.
“However, I think it’s really great.”
Dirksen said the marriage most
likely would be a positive influence
for the team.
“Married athletes tend to be a lot
more serious and more settled down,”
Dirksen said. “There’s probably a lot
more things that are not a problem
than there are because they are mar
ried.”
Sherri said she had feelings for
“It really doesn’t have a bearing on anything. It
wouldn’t be any different than if they were just
going out. ”

Bradysever since she arrived at the
university from- Merino, Colo., in
1992.
“I liked Brady ever since he was a
freshman, but he always had other
girlfriends,” she said. “Sc^Ijust had to
sit back.”..
But in April 1994, her sitting was
over, and the friendship had pro
gressed into something more.
“At first, we were just really good
friends, but we juSt started seeing
more of each other,” Brady said.
Dirksen said that he was confident
that any possible problems at home
between the two would stay at home.
“When you come to practice, you
have toput someof those things away,”
he said. “However, they are both re
ally good kids and are extremely
stable.”
And the fact that the two captains
are married.jvill not change Dirksen’s
game plan on coaching the teams.
“It really doesn’t have a bearing on
anything,” he said. “It wouldn’t be
any different than if they were just •
going out.”
Brady said he could see one pos
sible problem, however.
“Sometimes she gets tired of me
talking about track all the time,” he
said. “But I’d say it’s all worked out
great.”
