Godfather’s Pizza made an offer
that UNL Food Services couldn’t
refuse.
Godfather’s was chosen to replace
Valentino’s as this
year’s residence
hall pizza pro
vider, ending
Valentino’s 1 172
year deal.
“It came down to
a bidding war be
tween the two
again,” said Ron
Burke, assistant
director for food service and stores.
“We also conducted a taste test
based on Five criteria, and Godfather’s
was the closest to our mark on each
one,” Burke said.
It’s no wonder there is competition
for the university pizza market. Last
year, Valentino’s delivered close to
28,000 pizzas to the residence hall
cafeterias.
That competition has helped drive
down prices. This year, UNL will be
saving 40 cents per pizza and will get
larger pizzas, Burke said.
But different pizza isn’t the only
change residence hall inhabitants will
discover.
This year, food service will experi
ment with a four-week, non-repetiti ve
cycle intended to give students less
repetition in menu items.
“In our student satisfaction survey
last year, the main area of concern was
less repetition and more variety,”
Burke said.
He said the fast food items would
not change and would be available
each day, but he said the main entrees
would change.
. “You won’t be having a turkey
tetrazzini or chicken a la carte in the
same week,” he said.
A more diverse, low-fat vegetarian
menu also has been added.
“We want to make this a food ser
vice students want to be a part of,”
Burke said.
UNL Housing is sponsoring a pic
nic for hall residents Friday from4:30
to 6:30 p.m. in the green space north
of Nebraska Union.

Group helping
crime victims
sets up fund
From Staff Reports _
A University of Nebraska-Lincoln
program to help crime victims is ex
panding its services this semester.
Victim Services has set up a fund to
aid crime victims and may start a crisis
line for victims to call, said Lisa
Cauble, program coordinator.
“The most important thing is to
give victims a place to go to find out
their options and get any help they
might need,” Cauble said. -
The fund currently totals about
$300, she said. The money will pay
for such things as obtaining protection
orders and replacingand rekeying bro
ken locks, she said.
The money cannot be used for those
things if a victim’s insurance policy
will pay for the costs, she said. The
money also cannot be used to replace
stolen items, she said.
Cauble said Victim Services was
created to help victims understand the
judicial process. Previously, victims
would file a report with the police
department, she said, but would not
receive follow-up information on the
case after an arrest was made.
Now, after a police report is filed,
Cauble receives the case information
from University Police or the Lincoln
Police Department.
Cauble also meets with people con
sidering whether to file a police report
and informs them of their options.
The most common crime Cauble
deals with is domestic abuse, she said.
Since January, Victim Services has
handled 18 domestic abuse cases and
two sexual assault cases.
