You’re near the College of Business Administration, and your stomach is growling. What are you going to do? Normally, you would have to be an Olympic sprinter to make it to the Nebraska Union to buy food and get back. But now, everything you need is in a little, red pushcart right around the comer. U Express, located on the east side of CBA’s first floor, is a new division of the union’s Bakery. It offers some of the same things offered by the Bak ery—soft drinks, flavored coffee and baked goods — with an important twist. “The lines are much shorter over here,” said Joyce Campbell, who op erates the stand. The mobile snack shop is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Kerry Stueck, manager of retail sales, said the sandwich cart was cre ated to meet customer demand. People were tired of eating food from vend ing machines, she said, or even skip ping meals because they didn’t have time to go to the union and eat. “We decided to go to them,” she said. Campbell said bottled soft drinks were still the most popular item. She said she expected other items, such as sandwiches, to begin selling better when more students found out about U Express. If customer response was good, Stueck said, more U Express stands would open in other buildings. U Ex press also may expand its hours to serve students earlier in the morning and later in the afternoon, she said. Other changes are being made in the Bakery as well. Most noticeably, it has moved from the comer between Burger King and the information desk to the center of the union’s first-floor commons area. —• The renovation would improve tne speed of service, she said. Another cash register will be added, and the drinks will be self-serve—customers will pull their own bottled soft drinks out of a cooler and get their own coffee and iced tea. The Bakery plans two new offer ings: yogurt with toppings, and sal ads. There also will be a larger selec tion of sandwiches. The Bakery’s hours already have expanded. It is now open from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Stueck said those hours could shorten based on demand. Stueck said the line at the Bakery probably would still block the main walkway in the union. “But the line will move a lot faster,” she said. Housing Continued from Page 1 carpeting and television, but all said the best advantage was the space. “You have enough room for a , couch,” Newcomb said, “and it’s fun having other roommates.” But four people is too many, the students agreed. Students said they might stay if only two people lived in the lounge. Either way, their options are lim ited. None of the residents have got ten any word on when — or if— they will be moved into regular rooms. They don’t know if they’ll have to move their belongings down the hall to another room or down the street to another residence hall. Until then, they’ll cope. “It’s manageable,” Ramert said, “but it’s not what we expected.” COLLEGE OF HUMAN RESOURCES AND FAMILY SCIENCES AUGUST 24,1995,4 - 5 pm ALL NEW STUDENTS IN THE COLLEGE OF HRFS Please see your adviser at the room number listed. •Nutritional Science and Dietetics - RLH 207 •Textiles, Clothing & Design - HE 222 •Family & Consumer Sciences/Child Dev Studies - HE 121 •Family & Consumer Sciences/all other majors - Go to your adviser's office.
