Seniors Christy Johnson, Billie Winsett and Allison Weston are poised to lead the Nebraska
volleyball team this season.
Seniors expect national title

The Nebraska volleyball team fin
ished one step shy of making it to the
NCAA Final Four a year ago with a
loss to Penn State.
But Coach Terry Pettit said that
depth and senior leadership could be
the keys to taking the next step in 1995.
“We have 12 really good players,”
Pettit said. “And our seniors really
know what they’re doing.”
The Comhuskers lost Kelly
Aspegren and Peggy Meyer off last
year’s 31-1 team.

“This group of seniors is unique,”
Weston said. “I think we’re one of the
most dedicated group of seniors.”
Johnson and Weston were part of
the 1994 American Volleyball Coach
es Association All-American First
Team. Weston also was named the
1994 Big Eight Player of the Year.
Winsett was a second-team All
Mideast Region and second-team All
Big Eight selection.
All three seniors took part in the
1995 U.S. Olympic Festival this sum
mer.
feel any pressure to be a senior leader
this season.
“I don’t see it as pressure,” Winsett
said. “I see it as a goal and a duty. My
goal is to have enough confidence in
myself to help lead die team, and my
duty is to just be consistent.”
Weston agreed.
“Coaches do most of the showing,
and we’re basically just leading by
example,” she said.
Winsett said the seniors knew what
Pettit wanted from them, and she
thought the team could provide the
results.
“The seniors have been here the
longest and know what’s expected of
IWTJSW said, “And to me it’s
gomg to be a big disappointment if we
don’t win the national championship.”
