    Touring bands to stop nearby

Music fans in the Lincoln and
Omaha area won’t have to lament the
end of the summer concert season just
yet A number of touring bands will
make stops in this area over the next
month.
Alternative rock band Bush will
cruise into Omaha Sept. 3 for a show at
the Omaha Civic Auditorium Music
Hall.
Better Than Ezra will appear at
Omaha’s Ranch Bowl Aug. 20.
Native Omaha band 311 will head
line the Edgefest Sept. 9 at Ak-Sar
Ben in Omaha. The Violent Femmes,
Hum, the Nixons, the Phunk Junkeez,
God Lives Underwater, the Urge, Se
cret Skin, Shovelhead and Heroes and
Villains also will appear.
For those of you who want to party
before die school year officially be
gins, numerous bands are playing just
blocks away.
At the Hurricane, 11180 St, Chloe
takes the stage Friday night, and the
L.A. Ramblers are scheduled for Sat
urday.
Knickerbockers, 901 O St., contin
ues to bring local and regional bands to
its stage with Mind Spray and Illinois*

want to check out Kerri Leigh and the
Blue Devils at the Zoo Bar Sept. 1-2,
for a dose of the blues.
If country music sounds like a good
idea, Guitars and Cadillacs, 5400 O
St, will feature Rhett Akins tonight.
Upcoming shows there include the
Fabulous Thunderbirds Sept 18 and
Doug Supemaw in a benefit for the
Spinal Cord Society Sept 24.

Country musician Rhett Akins
will appear at Guitars and Cadillacs,
5400 O St, tonight
Akins is touring in support of “A
Thousand Memories,” his debut al
bum that was released early this year.
Having lived inNashvUle, Tenn.,
for only three years, Akins has al
ready gained a substantial follow
ing in the country music world.
As well as performing, Akins
also co-wrote all of the songs on WA
thousand Memories, an album
that critics have called deeply emo
tional and reflective of real life.
Songs such as “Those Hands,”
“Heart to Heart” and “Katy Brought
My Guitar Back Today” are all
based on Akins’ personal experi
ences with relationships, whether
they were with close relatives or
estranged loves.
Tickets for the show are $ 10 in
advance and $12 at the door. Doors
open at 6 pm, and Akins will take
the stage at approximately 9:30 p.m.
