And my car looks so elean. And my vision isn’t obstructed by swirling clouds of dust.” Relax, you’re not at the wrong school. You’ve simply pulled into one of UNL’s newly paved lots. Six campus parking lots were paved over the summer to prepare for the start of fall classes, said Tad McDowell, manager ofUniversity of Nebraska-Lincoln Parking Services. The City Campus parking lots that were paved are at 10th and Q streets, 17th and R streets, 19th and Q streets and on 19th Street from R to U streets. The lot on Avery Street next to the power plant also was paved. On East Campus, the lot at 35th and Fair streets and the lot north of L.W. Chase Hall on Fair Street were paved. The street running from Agricultural Hall north to Fair Street also was paved. Those lots used to be set with messy rock, McDowell said, but lots can’t be set with rock for more than two years. After that time, he said, they mustbe rerocked orpaved. Lots that were not worked on this summer will be projects for next summer, McDowell said. Paved lots are neater, he said, and also are more efficient. A few lots were improved m other ways, he said. The lot next to Memorial Stadium was restriped, and new rock was added to the area around the poultry bams on East Campus. In die past, McDowell said, fees for parking permits were increased to help pay for lot maintenance. But he said many students and faculty didn’t know how the money was being used. To change that, this summer’s parking improvements were fi nanced through a bond passed by the Legislature and approved by the NU Board of Regents. Now, McDowell said, permit buyers know exacdy where their money is going — to help make bond payments. Introduction to Free Student Checking Open to students of all levels.
