Reunion to shut doors

A University hangout will be clos
ingon an undecided date this summer.
By September, local businesses
such as The Plump Tomato Pizza
Company, George’s Great Gyros,
Eggroll Palace, Hairtech Salon, and
Spellbound Books and Games will be
forced to leave the Reunion Foodcourt.
Several years ago, the Reunion,
located at 905 N. 16th St., was also
home to a copy center, a sports store,
and an Amigos restaurant.
“The rumor is that the owner of the
Reunion is trying to bargain,” George
Kholousi, owner of George’s Great
Gyros, said.
“I’ve heard that they are trying to
sell the building to the university. I’ve
also heard that the Reunion will be
changed into apartments.”
It is true that the first floor of the
Reunion could possibly be converted
into residential units, David Hunter,
president of State Title Services, said.
Hunter and the Hardy Building
Corporation presently own the build
ing.
If the building is not converted into
apartments, the building could be sold
to the university for $ 1.6 million.
“The university doesn’t want to
lose this place,” Kholousi said. “It
would be a convenient place if the
university decided to expand it’s
chemical engineering department.”
Kholousi also owns another
George’s Great Gyros restaurant, lo
cated at 14th and O streets.
“When the Reunion closes, I am
also planning to open a new sit-down
restaurant with a mix of American,
Middle Eastern, and Greek food,”
Kholousi said. “I am still looking fora
good location and a good chef.”
Spellbound Books and Games, an
other business in the Reunion, is also
looking for a new location.
“It’s a shame for this store. After
the noon crowd, many students come
to play games outside in the food court
area. These are the people who come
to our store,” Spellbound employee
Bob Moyer said.
“When we relocate, we will have to
find a place that is big enough to
handle the gamers.”
The store is doing well at the uni
versity, and they hate to leave, Moyer
said.
Although a date has not been set,
the Reunion will definitely close its
doors before the fall semester.
