Although it is the first time that many of them have visited Lincoln, it is not the first time that the scooters have been here, David Sabatka, Ne braska Cushman Club President, said. The two-wheeled scooters—many of which resemble mo-peds — were built in Lincoln’s Cushman Motor i - Works Plant from 1936 to 1965. Fol lowing World War II, the scooter’s low price made it a primary source of transportation. The meet, which will run through Saturday, marks the 30th anniversary of Cushman’s final year of production. The convention gives owners a chance to buy and sell parts, take driving lessons and test their riding skills, Sabatka said. Many scooters will be on display as well. “We welcome the public to come and look,” he said, “and if they have a scooter in their garage, we’ll buy it from them.” The Museum of Nebraska History, 15th and P Streets, has also opened a temporary exhibit to honor the scoot ers. The summer exhibit includes ad vertising photographs and the Air borne Scooter, a model dropped by parachutes for Airborne troops during World War II. “Few people realize there are many Nebraska products which are synony mous with development of the Ameri - can culture,” said Gail Potter, Senior Museum Curator for the Nebraska State Historical Society. “The Cushman Motor Scooter is one of those products.” -- b Service Charge Checking And A FREE Gift From FirsTier!
