    Parents Association
helps UNb students

Money raised by the University of
Nebraska-Lincoln Parents Association
provides tangible support for under
graduate students.
In the past the association has pur
chased computers for Career Planning
and Placement Services and donated
money to Love library and die Schol
arships and Financial Aid Resource
Center, said Peg Blake, assistant vice
chancellor for student affairs.
Blake said gifts approved for the
1995-96 academic year include:
•$7,000 for a CD-rom tower in.
Love library which will be used to.
store CD-rom discs.
•Two televisions and VCR’s for
Career Planning and Placement Ser
vices.
•$8,000 for furniture, such as com
puter desks in the Scholarships and
Financial Aid Resource Center.
Plans for January 1996 include com
puter programs to assist students in
scholarship searches at the Scholar
ships and Financial Aid Resource Cen
ter, Blake said.
“The UNL Parents Association also
communicates with parents of under
graduate students through a newsletter
published once a semester and a hand
book which is given with new student
enrollment information,” Blake said.
The newsletter usually highlights
one area every semester, such as infor
mation on internships, financial aid
deadlines and the comprehensive edu
cation proposal, Blake said.

money a student may need during the
semester and the types of things stu
dents spend their money on, what die
university can and can’t tell parents
about their students, choosing and
changing a major and the types of
resources available for students.
The UNL Parents Association also
supports the university by testifying
before the legislature on the university
budget and speaking before groups out
side of Lincoln about the university.
