In addition to 216 Christian church es, Lincoln has Asatru, Baha’i, Bud dhist, Eckankar, Hindu/Sikh, Jewish, Messianic, Muslim, Unitarian, Unity, Wiccan and Zoroastrian congregations. Lincoln has always had a strong religious tradition. The land the city was built on was donated by a Methodist church, Leach said. Recently, the diversity of religions in Lincoln has grown substantially. The mid- 1980’s saw an increase in the number of non-Christian congre gations, he said. University ofNebraska-Lincoln stu dents have five churches to choose from right on campus. Cornerstone Church, at 640 N 16th St, includes four denominations: Pres byterian Church USA, United Meth odist Church, Christian Church (Dis ciples ofChrist) and the United Church of Christ. Services are 10:30 a.m. Sundays starting August 20. The Lutheran Student Center is at 535 N. 16th St., across the street from Cather-Pound-Neihardt Residence Complex. Services are Sundays at 10:30 a.m. during the summer and at 9:30 and 11 a.m. during the semester. St Marie’s on the Campus, an Epis copal congregation, is at 1309 R St, across the street from Love Library. Services are Sundays at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. during the summer and 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. during the semester. University Lutheran Chapel is at 1510 Q St, near Blockbuster Video. Services are Sundays at 10 a.m. during the summer and 9 and 11 a.m. during die semester. St. Thomas Aquinas Church (also known as the Newman Center), a Cath olic congregation, is at 320 N. 16th St, across the street from the University Lutheran Chapel. Year-round services are at 6:55 a.m. Monday-Friday, at 10 p.m. Monday Thursday, Fridays at 5 p.m., Saturdays at 8 a.m. and noon, and Sundays at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. There is also a service Sundays during the semester at 5:30 p.m.
