Baer, who has a 3.09 grade-point average in advertising, earned All men can nonors last montn alter finishing fifth in the 126-pound weight class at the NCAA Champi onships. Three other Huskers were hon ored: sophomore Ryan Tobin (sec ond team), j unior Celso DeAnda (hon orable mention) and freshman Michael Roller (honorable mention). ^ornnuskers receive official recognition for year’s work rrom otarr nepons Jaron Boone, a junior guard on the Nebraska men’s basketball team, has been named the winner of the Jack Moore Award, given to the team’s most outstanding player. Other Comhuskers also were hon ored Tuesday night at the annual awards banquet. Erick Strickland was named the Huskers’ outstanding defensive player; Chester Surles,most outstand ing newcomer, Mikki Moore, most improved player; Terrance Badgett, Hondo Award for unselfish play; and Melvin Brooks, captain award. Three Nebraska players were pre sented with spirit awards: Lee Steinbrook, Zac Clause and Chris Crayton. We were accustomed to deal ing with those guys last year. “They’d hold their blocks for a while and lay on people a while. We had time to make reads.” Benning returns after rushing for 367 yards and scoring five touch downs in 1994. “We just have to make sure we do our job in holding onto the ball,” Benning said, “and hitting the holes when they’re there. That’s what it’s all about — us taking care of our business.” For that to happen, the I-backs — Phillips, James Sims and Brian Knuckles — need to start practicing again, Benning said. “You just want to get out there and be a person to make a difference.
