After Frost’s 5-yard touchdown run,
redshirt freshman fullback Joel Makovicka,
younger brother of senior fullback Jeff
Makovicka, scored from a yard out.
“Joel really played well,” Osborne said.
“He’s going to be a heck of a player. We’re
really pleased with those guys.”
Billy Legate scored the final touchdown
on a 1-yard run late in the scrimmage.
Osborne said he was concerned about
Nebraska’s kicking game after the Huskers
were without their top three kickers—two
due to injury and Darin Erstad to baseball.
Nebraska missed both extra points it at
tempted and missed the only two field goals
it attempted Saturday.

After Viola struck out, Nebraska picked up
five consecutive base hits.
In that inning, Blackwood helped her cause
by knocking in two runs. Blackwood went 3 for
4 with three RBIs at the plate.
“When I’m having a hard time at the plate, I
think about what I did wrong batting and it takes
away from my pitching,” Blackwood said.
The Huskers closed out the scoring when
Echo-Hawk hit a two-run home run in the sev
enth.
Revelle said she was glad her team could
close out a hard weekend with a win—a win in
a weekend series, in which Nebraska had a
chance to win all four games.
But Revelle said she would settle for the
split.
“I felt that three of the four games were just
dogfights,” Revelle said. “You come in hoping
you can get a sweep, but with the teams being so
equal, I am happy with a split.”

Two wins are tune up
for men’s tennis team

In what Nebraska coach Kerry McDermott
called the best performance of the season, the
men’s tennis team stunned Creighton 9-0 Fri
day. Southwest Missouri State fell victim to the
Comhuskers 5-2 earlier in the day.
The two wins doubled the amount of success
that the Huskers scarcely found on their tour of
Texas the week before. On the Texas trip,
Nebraska won just one match of six.
“This was our strongest play of the year,”
McDermott said. “It will help build our confi
dence before we start conference play next
week.”
The Huskers’ 9-0 sweep was their first shut
out of the season, and included an impressive 6
4,7-5 win by No. 1 singles player Andy Davis
over Creighton’s Brian Keny. Davis was
outsized and sometimes overpowered by the
much-taller Keny, but never relinquished the
lead during the 1 1/2-hour-long match.
Adrian Maizey dominated Luis Peon at the
No. 3 singles position with a 6-0, 6-2 win.
Maizey and Davis combined in the No. 1 doubles
competition, winning 8-2.

Husker tennis loss to Colorado
seen as step to team improvemeni

Nebraska women’s tennis coach Scott
' Jacobson said despite his team’s 7-2 loss to
Colorado on Sunday, the match could provide
the platform for the team’s improvement.
“Even though we lost... I think every time
you step on the court in a competitive match,
you become a better player,” Jacobson said.
Jacobson said that if not for a few key points,
the match could have just as easily been 5-4.
The 7-2 loss to Colorado was not the score
Jacobson said he would like to have seen, but
the team’s focus was more on the things it could
control.
“We didn’t play as well as we really wanted
to today, but that’s something you really can’t
control,” he said. “J think we played hard but I
think that Colorado was a better program than
us today.”
But the most important thing was that th
team was within reach of a victory, Jacobso
said.
The next competition for the team will b
Saturday when it travels to Stillwater, Okla., t
go against Oklahoma State.
“I think we are progressing,” Jacobson sai<
“And hopefully, this will give us more conf
dence going into next week.”
And Jacobson said that he believed his tear
could build off of the match, even with the resu
ending up in a loss.
“I’ve got a very competitive group,” he sai<
“We just need to stay positive and focused. If
a long season.”
Jacobson said that the team could also ver
possibly meet up with Colorado again at the Bi
Eight Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla
on April 21-23.
