New releases spring up over break By Gerry Beltz Film Critic Spring is a time for fun, frolick ing and films. This year is no ex ception , with a whole slew of fl icks coming to Lincoln screens in the next two weeks. This week, “Losing Isaiah” opens, starring Halle Berry and Jes sica Lange. It is sure to be a tear jerker. A drug addict (Berry) abandons her newborn baby, who is adopted by a social worker (Lange). An adoption suit develops when the drug addict cleans up her act and wants her child back. Horror sequels seem to be as infinite "as the baseball talks. “Candyman II: Farewell to the Flesh” also opens this week. The hook-handed fiend is back, this time chasing after the descendant of a woman he loved centuries before. Family-related comedy also is in the air with “Bye Bye Love” coming out. Paul Reiser, Matthew Modine and Randy Quaid all play single dads working on survival and dating. The Oscar-shunned “Hoop Dreams” also comes to Lincoln this week, for anyone who missed it during its short run at the Mary Riepma Ross Film Theater a couple weeks ago. The movies released over spring break are only tentatively scheduled, soit can change at amoment’snotice. Yet another Stephen King story is making its way to the big screen,, this one entitled “Dolores Claiborne.” It stars Kathy Bates and Jennifer Jason Leigh. Dolores Claiborne (Bates) is accused of murder, largely because she was involved in a similar death years before. Leigh plays the daugh ter who hasn’t seen her mother in 15 years. There’s not much information available on “Tall Tale: The Ad ventures of Pecos Bill,” except that it has Patrick Swayze in the title role and involves a little kid who enlists the aid of three legendary characters, including Pecos Bill, Paul Bunyan and John Henry. In “Major Payne,” a tough-as nails Army man longs for combat and challenge and gets more than he bargained for when they assign him to a group of non-military minded youths. Other movies include “Muriel’s Wedding,” which looks to be an other romantic-comedy, and “Gordy,” the story of a superpig with a cape that saves his entire family. Check out Monsters to liven up break From Staff Reports Known for its incredible live per formances, Big Head Todd and the Monsters is probably the best reason to stay in Nebraska for spring break. The Monsters will play Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Omaha Civic Audito rium Music Hall.
