Country star Alan Jackson struts his stuff Saturday From Staff Reports Alan Jackson, headliner for the Fruit of the Loom Country Comfort Music Series, will strut and strum his stuff Saturday at 8 p.m. at Pershing Auditorium. “Who I Am,” Jackson’s most recent album, has gone platinum, and his three previous albums have had similar success. The six-man band he travels with is called the Stray horns. Jackson has also received sev eral music awards, winning more than 13 of them last year, including Single of the Year and Video of the Year (both for “Chattahoochee”) at the TNN Music City News Country Awards. Senior Trevor Meers, a senior news-editorial major, said Jackson’s music appealed to many people because it was so fun. “It’s feel-good music,” Meers said. “It’s got a real upbeat, sum mery feel.” Meers said songs like “Chattahoochee” reminded him of being a teen-ager on a summer night in a Nebraska small town. Chely Wright will open for Jack son. His opening act has varied throughout the tour to include Faith Hill, Lari White and Lee Roy Parnell. Atypical show to teach powerful truths about former editor, media and the world From Staff Reports Dan Hurlin’s performance of “No (thing so powerful as) Truth” will not only entertain and inform, but also will push audience members to think about the world that surrounds them. Hurlin will appear at the Johnny Carson Theater, 11th and Q streets, both tonight and Saturday night at 8. His last appearance in Lincoln and the Johnny Carson Theater was in 1992 when he performed his solo project, “Quintland.” “No (thing so powerful as) Truth” combines spoken words, visual im ages and musical performances to ex amine and critique the life of the late William Loeb and the powerful role of media in American society. Loeb was the editor ofthe Manches ter Union Leader, New Hampshire’s largest newspaper. He used his posi tion as editor to promote his own ul tra-conservative ideals and to develop a tremendous amount of political clout without ever holding an elected public office. Loeb ’ s abuse of power wi 11 be used as an example of the potential mem bers of the media have to exploit the public and further their own agendas. Jazz saxophonist Dan Froot will accompany Hurlin, providing the musical soundtrack to Hurlin’s words. Tickets for the performance are available at the Lied Center Box Of fice priced at $14 for non-students and $7 for students. KRNU Continued from Page 9 KRNU music directors may not think of the other stations as competi tors, but they do pay attention to them, Fairbaim said. “Obviously, we’re not going to play the same songs that another radio sta tion will play to death,” Fairbaim said. What “other stations” do play is largely based on what people want to hear, primarily because commercial stations depend on advertising rev enue to survive, KRNU Station Man ager Rick Alloway said. “We’ve had todo a little fine tuning with our programming,” he said. “The addition of other stations like the Planet can make us work a little harder to find something that isn’t heard of, or heard often. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing.” $3.00 per day for 15 words on individual student and student organization ads. $4.00 per day for 15 words on non-student ads. $.15 each additional word. $.75 billing charge.
