The unexpected was Nebraska’s Jason dock. dock, playing his first game since suffering a knee injury at Long Beach State, scored seven of his nine points in the key second half comeback. Included in that was five points dock scored in a stretch that helped the Huskers take a seven-point lead. dock gave Nebraska its first lead of the second half at 49-48 on a j umper. After a dock assist to Erick Strickland, dock made a jumper to put the Huskers ahead 53-48. The Huskers went on to lead 55 48. dock said he never thought Ne braska was in control after taking the seven-point lead. “I thought maybe we could in “We weren't playing very well as a team, and I just came in to work the ball around. ” JASON CLOCK Nebraska guard crease our lead a little bit,” Glock said. “We really haven’t been a team that can put anybody away.” 1 dock’s play impressed Strickland, who said the junior guard’s play re . ally helped Nebraska. “Jason really stepped it up tonight for us,” Strickland said. “He came to play the whole game, and he was probably the only one that did play a full 40 minutes.” Glock played a personal season high 27 minutes for the Huskers, eclipsing his previous best of 25. The junior from Wahoo said he was glad to hear somebody like Stricldand compliment his perfor mance. “We weren’t playing very well as a team, and I just came in to work the ball around,” Glock said. The expected was Strickland. Strickland shook off a slightly twisted ankle that he suffered with 19:15 remaining in the game to lead the Huskers with 16 points. The junior from Bellevue West, scored 14 second-half points after a dismal shooting effort in the first half, making just one of four shots. Strickland came through in the final minutes. He scored five points in the final 3:38 of the game to seal the victory. Nebraska coach Danny Nee said the play of dock and Strickland was a major contributor to the Huskers victory. “Strickland made some big-time plays going down the stretch,” Nee said, “and I thought Jason dock hit a couple of big-time shots for us.” Plummer optimistic about Super Bowl SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Don’t talk to Gary Plummer about the Super Bowl pointspread, the NFC’s 10-year winning streak, or the feeling the game could be anticlimactic for San Francisco. For him, the 49ers against the San Diego Chargers is the matchup he’s been waiting for. “It’s the ultimate for me,” said Plummer, who spent eight years with the Chargers and maintains an off season home in San Diego. “Not only to be making it to the Super Bowl but to also end up playing the Chargers.” Most of the 49ers basked in the afterglow of Sunday’s 38-28 NFC championship victory over Dallas. Club president Carmen Policy said the title win was so huge that any thing after it would be anticlimactic. “I beg to differ with my leader,” said Plummer, a linebacker who came to San Francisco last March as the first in a wave of free agent acquisi tions. “As a matter of fact, it was prob ably less enjoyable to win the NFC championship, personally. What I started thinking about right away was there was absolutely no way I could move back to San Diego if I don’t go back there with a Super Bowl ring. I’d probablyjust stay in the Bay area.” Plummer also said it would be wrong to forecast the Super Bowl based on the 49ers’ regular-season route of the Chargers. San Francisco is anywhere from a 17-point to 20 point favorite to win a fifth Super Bowl. “They are a lot healthier,” Plummer said. “TTiey didn’t have one of their starting guards, their starting H-back or their starting tight end, all of whom are extremely important in their run ning game. They are back to full strength in that regard, and that has been the strength of the Chargers, what got them out to a 6-0 start.” Tuesday and Thursday 50< Miller Draws $1 Pints on Miller Lite and Icehouse.
