Huskers miss guard as
thev lose twice in a row
From Staff Reports
The Nebraska women’s basketball
team continued to struggle in the Big
Eight with losses to Oklahoma and
Oldahoma State this weekend.
The losses dropped the Huskers to
0-4 in the Big Eight and 9-7 overall.
The Huskers committed 31 turn
overs against Oklahoma State Sun
day at Stillwater, Okla., in a 69-52
loss.
Kate Galligan led the Huskers with
19 points before fouling out; Galligan
also had eight turnovers.
Anna DeForge added 16 points,
but turned the ball over six times.
Nebraska coach Angela Beck said
the loss of point guard Tina McClain,
who injured a knee in the first half
against the Cowboys, hurt the Husk
ers.
Beck said she was not sure of the
severity of McClain’s injury.
“This is not just a loss for us, this
is a big loss,” Beck said. “Her knee is
still questionable. It doesn’t look to
tally tom, but we need to take her
home and have a specialist look at it.”
The Huskers opened their trip to
Oklahoma with a 63-62 loss to the
Sooners on Friday.
With Nebraska trailing 61-59
against the Sooners, Lis Brenden
drilled a 3-pointer with 12 seconds
remaining to give the Huskers a 62
61 lead.
But Oklahoma’s Misty Van Curen
hit a layup with two seconds left to
give the Sooners the win.
Husker team effort evident
despite loss at weekend dual
From Staff Reports
The 20th-ranked Nebraska swim
ming and diving team lost a dual with
13th-ranked Arizona State 129-114
at the Bob Devaney Sports Center
Sunday. .
The Huskers trailed 116-110 en
tering the 400-meter freestyle relay,
the dual’s final event, and could have
won the dual with a relay win. But
Arizona State’s ‘A’ team beat
Nebraska’s best team by almost three
secohds to seal the win.
The Huskers’ chances to win the
meet may have also been hurt by two
false starts that led to disqualifications.
Francois BoshofT was disqualified
from the 50-meter freestyle, and Jose
Isaza was disqualified from the 100
meter freestyle because of false starts.
Despite losing the dual, Nebraska
dominated the diving competition.
Jeff Bro led the Huskers in the 1
meter diving competition with a
329.95 score. Nebraska took the top
six places in the event.
The Huskers also took the top five
spots in the 3-meter competition.
Nebraska swimmers did not fair as
well as the divers.
