Some Husker seniors’ seasons not finished

The Nebraska football team is all
but a memory now, but seven seniors
still have one game left to play. The
seniors will play in three exhibition
“all-star” games later this month.
Comerback Barron Miles, line
backer Ed Stewart and offensive tackle
Rob Zatechka will travel to San Fran
cisco to participate in the East-West
Shrine game on Jan. 14 at 3 p.m.
Husker offensive guard Brenden
Stai and defensive tackle Terry
Connealy will play their final colle
giate game at the Senior Bowl in
Mobile, Ala., on Jan. 21 at 1 p.m.,and
linebackers Donta Jones and Troy
Dumas will play in the Hula Bowl in
Honolulu on Jan. 22 at 7 p.m.
All three of the exhibition games
will be broadcast live on ESPN.
Miles, who was named a third
team All-American and first-team
Ail-Big Eight, finished the season
with 40 tackles and a team-high five
interceptions. Miles also had four
blocked kicks this season. He was
Nebraska’s first two-time first-team
All-Big Eight comerback since Bruce
Pickens in 1989-90.
Stewart had 96 tackles this season,
including 31/2 sacks. He was a final
ist for the Butkus Award, given to the
nation’s best linebacker. He ranks
fifth all time at Nebraska with 257
career tackles. Stewart was named to
four All-American teams.
Zatechka and Stai helped anchor a
Husker offensive line that paved the
way for the top rushing attack in the
country.

National Champs
to get another
shot Sunday

The 1995 Orange Bowl can be
seen once again this Sunday.
WOWT-TV Channel 6 in Omaha
will rebroadcast the game pitting
Miami against Nebraska at 10:30 p.m.
Dave Webber, sports director at
Channel 6, said there was huge de
mand for the rebroadcast of the game.
“It seems like everybody I talked to
wanted to see it again,” he said. “The
station got numerous calls.
“We want to give people who didn’t
get a chance to see it the chance to see
it or record it.”
But before the station was cleared
to run the game, it had to check with
the university, the Orange Bowl and
NBC.The game will be run in its
entirety, including commercials.
Students get
to celebrate
title on Friday

Students at UNL will get a chpce
to celebrate the Nebraska football
team’s national title Friday, Jan. 13.
Chancellor Graham Spanier has
invited all employees and students to
wear red and white that day and to
include their signatures on large con
gratulatory cards. The cards will be
placed in the Nebraska Union and
East Campus Union from 9 a.m. to 5
p.m.
° These cards will be presented to
the football team and be put on dis
play.
“The entire campus community
hasn’t had an opportunity to celebrate
the championship yet,” said Phyllis
Larsen, director of public relations.
“Since classes start up again this
week, we decided to plan an activity
for all employees and students to dem
onstrate their Nebraska pride.”
Andrew Loudon, president of the
Association of Students at the Uni
versity of Nebraska, said the celebra
tion is much-deserved.
“The student body feels especially
proud of our fellow students on the
team,” he said. “We are looking for
ward to showing our support by wear
ing red and white on Friday.”
