In the past few years, however, Scott has become less involved with the awards, he said. The last Walter Scott scholarships were granted in August 1993, Ballard said. After that, the corporation asked the college not lo offer the scholar ships. he said. Ballard said students currently re ceiving the Scott scholarships also would be unaffected. Regent Margaret Robinson of Nor folk said she was disappointed that the scholarships were put on hold, but that the right person had made the decision. Robinson said that Scott had been “very generous" to the university in past years, and that she was confi dent his generosity would continue. “I think we have to adhere to the terms of which he wants to rcestab lish them (the scholarships),” Robinson said. “What docs he want the university to do.” Several regents contacted Wednes day said the hold on scholarships would not affect their vote in Decem ber. The engineering task force, orga nized last March to make a plan for creating the proposed college, pre sented its report to Smith last Friday. Smith has been unavailable for com ment. Sculpture Continued from Page 1 ending his trip in February. This trip is Stepak’s first to the United States and he said it has been overwhelmingly positive. “Every day I am here I like it more,” Stepak said. Since his arrival at UNL last week, Stepak has visited several classes, in cluding landscape design and sculp ture. He also has designed and be gun construction of the temporary sculpture at L.W. Chase Hall. Stepak said his sculpture would be a subtle addition to the natural land scape of the area. “I don’t want it to be so domi nant,” he said. “I want it to follow the landscape.” Stepak designed the project spe cifically for the site on campus and used several student volunteers to assist in its construction. Weiss said photographs of Stepak’s previous work was displayed on the second floor of the home eco nomics building. The display will move Sunday to the lobby of the NBC Bank, 12th and O streets, where it will remain until Nov. 26. Stcpak said he planned to return to the United States, already having been invited to participate in the World Art Festival in Atlanta in 1996.
