Z PeopleWatch Z Nolte’s land ‘down and out’ CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) —The property Nick Nolte and his ex-wife once planned to turn into a . housing tract called Down and Out in South Hills failed to draw a single bid at a tax auction. The couple, who split up earlier this year, owed $2,161 in taxes on the house and four-acre lot, which were valued at $425,000. It was one of 3,000 properties put up for bid on Monday at a county tax sale. Before their divorce, the Noltes had proposed turning the property into a 10-lot subdivision, but local planners rejected the idea after neighbors complained. The neighbors were particularly * offended by the proposed development’s name, a takeoff on Nolte’s 1986 movie “Down and Out in Beverly Hills.” With no one buying the prop erty, the Noltes have 18 months to pay the back taxes. / Lovett and Roberts together NEW YORK (AP) — Ignore those rumors that Lyle Lovett and Julia Roberts are headed for Splitsville. That was them holding hands as they walked to a restau rant after Lovett’s New York City concert the other night. Lovett didn't tell the audience Roberts was at Sunday’s show. But in introducing the song “That’s No Lady, That’s My Wife,” the coun try star was careful to note he wrote it before his marriage 17 months ago. Newvid Continued from Page 9 both herself and her family from fall ing apart. The film will pull at heartstrings, and at times it may seem all too real. “Wyatt Earp" (PG-13) — What is it with Kevin Costner and the Old West? Some bizarre fixation? A re pressed need for horses and leather? “Wyatt Earp” tells the classic story (that “Tombstone” did better and in less time) about the trials and tribula tions of the legendary Wyatt Earp (Costner). Costner is OK as the lawman (he even gets the accent right), but it is Dennis Quaid as Doc Holliday who steals the show. “Wyatt Earp” covers more ground than “Tombstone,” but with a run ning time of more than three hours, take a spotter to the video store with you before renting this beast. “Beverly Hills Cop 3" (R) — Ouch! Eddie Murphy tries one more time to star in an above-average hit, and one more time he suffers in a below-average flick. Murphy returns as Axel Foley, who comes back to Beverly Hills to catch more bad guys. As always, Foley has the inept, gung-ho Rosewood (Judge Rcinhold) as his backup. “Cops and Robbersons” (PG) — This movie is terrible, plain and simple. An overly macho cop (Jack Palancc) gets frustrated while deal ing with a wimpy family man (Chevy Chase), and the movie centers around their “comedic conflicts.” There’s plenty of other movies to rent. PICK OF THE WEEK—Maybe “Interview With The Vampire” is too gory, and you missed “The Lost Boys” a couple of weeks ago at the Star Ship 9. Hey, don’t sweat it! Check out "Buffy The Vampire Slayer.” It has the dark humor of “Heathers” but lacks some of the style. Buffy (Kristy Swanson, "The Chase”) is a totally rad cheerleader at a high school with every cinematic stereotvpe imaginable in both teach ers and students. The dialogue in this flick will make you glad that "valley girl” is officially recognized as a dead language. Ignoring the fact that Luke Perry is in the film, "Buffy The Vampire Slayer” is a hoot. Duarte Continued from Page 9 said. “It should be interesting and intriguing. It should have magic to it.” Duarte confessed he owed his magic to practice. Even as he talked on the phone, the soft strains of his guitar could be heard in the back ground. “When you’re practicing, you’re in a totally different mind-set than when you’re playing in front of people,” he said. “What practicing does is open up that creative channel from your mind to your hand, and it makes you be more innovated.” His band has a long way to go to reach maturity, he said. “We’re at the very beginning of the mixing process, and it's like half stirred Kool-Aid—it’s just terrible.” Duarte may think his music could stand improvement, but reviewers often compare him to the late Stevie Ray Vaugnan. Like Vaughan, Duarte puts heart and soul into his bop and blues wher ever he plays. Chris Duarte will beat the Zoo Bar tonight only, unleashing his passion on the crowd.
