PeopleWatch _ Movie based on sad life of NBC anchor PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Michelle Pfeiffer and Robin Wright are said to be in the run ning for the starring role in a movie based loosely on the short and troubled life of NBC anachorwoman Jessica Savitch. Robert Redford will star in “Up Close and Personal,” set to start filming in Philadelphia next spring, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Wednesday. Some significant story changes have been made, with the main character being a plucky reporter who does not meet Savitch’s fate Li_ZS_ Radford — drowning at age 36 when the car she was in plunged into a ca nal outside Philadelphia in 1983. The script also makes no refer ence to other aspects of her life: her alleged cocaine use and bisexu ality, a short first marriage and the suicide of her second husband five months after their wedding. The film will be directed by Jon Avnet, who directed “Fried Green Tomatoes.” Court denies Woody Allen’s custody appeal ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York state’s top court rejected an appeal of a ruling awarding cus tody of Woody Allen’s three chil dren to Mia Farrow. A judge last year gave Farrow custody of the couple’s two adopted children, Dylan and Moses, and their biological son, Satchel. > Allen contended on appeal that the custody decision was meant to punish him for his affair with Farrow’s adopted daughter, Soon Yi Previn. On Tuesday, the Court of Ap peals dismissed the case on the grounds that the matter is not fi nal. Allen’s lawyer, Elkan Abramowitz, said that was because the lower court ordered that Allen pay Farrow’s legal fees and the fees have not yet been set. Once they have been set, the ap peal will be refiled, Abramowitz said. Star’s brother remains in jail SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (AP) — Madonna’s brother has been in jail on drunken driving charges for the past 11 weeks, unable to post $2,500 bail. Martin Ciccone, 37, was ar rested July 9 after a traffic accident. “As far as we know, he doesn’t have the money,” said Michael Salhaney, an assistant Oakland County prosecutor. Madonna’s spokeswoman, Liz Rosenberg, said the star had no comment. “It’s personal. It’s fam ily,” Rosenberg said.
