    Classic to take players home
Bv Trevor Parks
Staff Reporter
Christian Peter and Barron Miles
couldn’t think of a better place to kick
off the college football season.
Peter and Miles return to their home
state on Sunday, when Nebraska plays
West Virginia in the Kickoff Classic at
East Rutherford, N.J.
Also making a homecoming to the
Garden State will be starting linebacker
and Ventnor,NJ., native DougColman.
Other New Jersey natives who will
make the trip are defensive tackles Jas
on Peter from Locust and Jason Jenkins
from Hammonton.
West Virginia has eight players on
its roster that hale from the state of New
Jersey. The most notable one is starting
linebacker and team co-captain Matt
Taffoni.
Miles is from Roselle, N J., which is
just 10 minutes from Giants Stadium in
the Meadowlands. He said he expected
about 40 to 50 family and friends to
come out to the game.
“It’s great to have that kind of sup
port,” Miles said. “Probably more than
that will probably show up.”
Miles said playing in front of the

cally they’re both very good players,”
he said. “They have good speed, and 1
wouldn’t be surprised to sec both of
them. That’sjust something we’ll have
to wait and sec as the game unravels.”
Osborne said not knowing which
quarterback the Mountaineers would
use wouldn’t hamper his team’s prep
aration.
“We usually don’t practice much
differently based on personnel,” he
said. “Even if we knew who was going
to start, not having seen much of cither
on film, it wouldn’t have made much
of a difference.”

home crowd would add no pressure.
“If I mess up, they will still love me,”
Miles said, “and if I do well, they’ll still
love me.”
Christian Peter, a native of Locust,
N. J.—which is 45 minutes south of the
stadium — said he would have a big
following coming to the game.
“Mom bought 200 tickets,” Peter
said. “There will be a lot of family and
friends who wouldn’t normally get to
see me. It’s a good chance for them to
get to see me out there.”
Although some outside distractions
will be present, Peter said he couldn’t
lose focus on his goal on the field.
“I’m trying to concentrate on the
game,” Peter said. “I don’t want to lose
track of going home to play football, and
it’s not a social gathering.”
Peter said this was a great way to
start the season, because the Huskcrs
will be playing a ranked team.
“It’s a big game for us, and it’s a big
game for a team like them,” Peter said.
“I’m sure a lot of people thought we
should have played them last year, but
it didn’t work out.”
Although Nebraska will be playing
the game out cast. Miles and Peter
agreed that West Virginia wouldn’t
ha vc an ad van tage because of the game ’ s
location.
“They’ll have our fans, and we’ll
have ours,” Miles said.
Peter said it was a great feeling any
time the Huskers played on the road in
front of Nebraska faas.
“We have the best fans in the coun
try,” Peter said. “They would go any
where to see us play.”
