    Weekend Outlook
Lincoln’s best, worst win awards
After a semester of evaluating the
best entertainment Lincoln has to of
fer, we have come up with some Out
& About awards. These awards re
flect, in our opinions, Lincoln’s cream
of the crop — or, in some cases, the
cream of the crap.
So, without further ado:
Best Source of Carcinogens: Just
about every downtown dispensary of
drinks. It’s hard to walk past a local
tavern without sampling a fine to
bacco aroma — and without subse
quently having your knees buckle and
your head go light.
Best Source of Artery Clogging:
This could have gone to Rock ‘N Roll
Runza, with its banana splits big
enough to make hell freeze over. But
after watching the news some nights
ago, we changed our minds.
Visions of tubs of movie theater
popcorn used to quench our hungriest
dreams. Then we found out we could
eat a banana spl i t and a double cheese
burger and get less fat. Runza, conse
quently, gets more of our business
now.
BestCommercial for Sinus Medi
cine: The Bob Dylanconccrt Wednes
day. Contac would make m illions pi ay
ing “Like a Rolling Stone” and say
ing. “Do you want to sound like this
every time you have the flu? Take
Contac.”
Best Perpetuator of Insomnia:
The Coflcc House, 13th and P streets.
Yes, there are other (and cheaper)
places to get a cup of coffee. But at
how many of them can you get wired
on an espresso, a Voltaire and a Double
Cafe Mocha with Steamed Milk (and
a dollop of whipped cream)?
Best Place to Take a Girl to Din
ner: Within walking distance:
Valentino’s— 13th and P streets. It’s
pleasantly dark, cozy and best of all,
Italian. Valentino’s has one of the
most reasonable buffets with a $4 all
you-can-eat pizza deal after 10 p.m.
on Fridays and Saturdays.
Best Place to Take a Boy to Din
ner: The Renaissance Room at The
Comhusker Hotel, 13 th and K streets.
Most importantly: Forget your bill
fold.
Best Weekend Activity for a
Trekkie: The Lazer Tag at Holiday
Skate World, 48lhandRstrects. While
not having the appeal of paint-ball
warfare, the blinking lights should be
more than sufficient for the aspiring
Capt. Jcan-Luc Picard or Luke
Skywalkcr.
Best Place to Get Cultured: The
Lied Center for Performing Arts. 12th
and 0 streets. It has great shows and
inexpensive student prices, compara
bly.
Best Place for Live Music: The
Zoo Bar, 13 th and P streets, no ques
tion about it. Runners-up:
Knickerbockers, Duffy’s and The
Hurricane.
Best Place to Bond with Nature:
The Sunken Gardens, 27th Street and
Capitol Parkway. It’s one of those
places that seems to just radiate peace
and beauty. And it’s free.
Best Place to Shop: Lincoln’s
Historic Haymarket. Even without the
Farmer’s Market, the Haymarket is
the best place to go to find unique
gifts. Ted & Wally’s is a great place to
get a post-purchase refresher.
For many students, it’s too late to
enjoy many of these things before
summer comes. But if you’re stuck in
Lincoln, take our advice to heart.
You’ll be wired, tired, active and a
normal college student.
Sarah Duey is a senior news-editorial
major and the Arts and Entertainment edi
tor.
Jan Calinger is a sophomore news-edito
rial major and an Arts and Entertainment
columnist.
