Frazier injury draws variety of reactions By Tim Pearson Senior Reporter Just like in any other scrimmage, Nebraska’s quarterbacks wore green jerseys over their uni forms Saturday as a signal to the defense to not tackle them. r i But in Saturday’s scrim mage, me green jerseys took on a whole new mean ing. The Cornhuskers were down tojusl three quarter baeks al ter starter Tomm le Frazier sprained his ankle in last Wednesday’s prac tice. So when Brook Bemnger Berringer was tackled to the ground during Saturday’s scrimmage at Memorial Sta dium, Nebraska coach Tom Osborne ran to the middle of the field. Osborne then held a conversation with his defensive players, instructing them to make sure none of his three remaining quarterbacks got hurt. But Berringer, who threw for 222 yards as Frazier’s backup last season, said wearing the green jerseys was both good and bad. Berringer, who will be a junior in the fall, is the only healthy quarterback on scholarship. Matt Turman and Vinnic Murphy are both walk-on quarterbacks. “I think it’s good for the depth we have at quarterback,” he said. “The thing that’s hard is that everybody’s going at full speed. “On that one play the defense didn’t know whether to go at full speed or let up. It’s tough for the defenses to really know how to react.” Frazier’s injury has given the other three quarterbacks more practice time, Berringer said, which has helped their passing. “It’s really good for all of us,” he said. “All of the quarterbacks are getting all of their repetitions in practice.” Berringer led the quarterbacks Saturday, throwing for 112 yards on 9-of-15 passing. Turman ran for two touchdowns and was 7-of 15 passing for 94 yards. Murphy was 6 for 10 for 71 yards through the air. Berringer said his throwing would be limit ed this spring because of his elbow, which was injured much of last season.
