Geena Davis stars as Angie in the drama “Angie.”
Realism, acting make
‘Angie’ must-see movie
“Angie”

“Angie,” a film about a young
woman’s quest for self-discovery,
deals with many issues relevant to the
modern woman.
Angie (Gccna Davis) is a maturing
woman in Brooklyn who must deal
with her changing feelings for her
fiance, Vinnie (James Gandolfmi),
and her growing need for an identity.
She breaks her engagement with
Vinnie, even though she is pregnant
with his child. Angie is threatened
with alienation from her devout Ital
ian Catholic family and friends, but
she remains loyal to her feelings.
Angie begins an affair wnth a witty
and cultured lawyer, Noel (Stephen
Rea), who is not the perfect partner
that he first appears to be.
After suffering problems with the
birth of her child and being rejected by
everyone except her best friend, Tina
(Aida Turturro), Angie journeys to
make a discovery about her past.
Davis gives her best performance
since her Academy Award-winning
role in “The Accidental Tourist.” She
captures the struggling emotions of a
young woman whose perception of
reality has been turned upside down.
Rea, as Noel, is great as a charming
enchanter and later as an irresponsi
ble bastard. His character adds a key
element to the story by accentuating
the pressures that force Angie to
change the course of her life.
The story line is refreshingly real
istic. Angie is plagued with problems
present in today’s society. She must
deal with shattering fragile relation
ships to unleashing dark secrets from
her mother’s past.
An excellent film, "Angie” cap
tures the goals and dreams of an enter
prising young woman who is not con
tent with her position in society.

mg belt, modeling means more than
an occasional free-lance job to Russ
“Savage" Guerrero, who shared the
bookstore platform Thursday.
Savage, with black hair, dimples
and a lean physique, said contemplat
ing the endless possibilities of the
romance industry kept him awake at
night.
“When 1 do a cover,” he said, “I
want to portray a hero’s character,
strength and love.”
At the UNO conference, the pub
lisher of Romantic Times, Kathryn
Falk, addressed 155 authors, agents
and academics about realistic fanta
sies defining the romantic hero of the
1990s.
“A woman expects a man to com
municate with her, be monogamous
or practice safe sex,” she said. “Wom
en want men to be romantic.”
Savage agreed.
“Men need to be more romantic,
especially with all the violence and
racism today,” he said. “I think men
should take a little extra time to say ‘I
love you’ or just to let his lady love
know that she’s important and appre
ciated.”
